Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum so be gentel //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I am about to start purchasing for an audio upgrade in my 1998 GTP, and would like some feedback on where I am so far.
The car: Audio system is almost stock - 1998 GTP w/ 8 speaker delco non-OnStar system. 6x9's in the rear are powered by the factor amp for lows only, full range 4" in the rear deck, 5.25's in the lower front door with tweeters in the upper door panel
I have a Kicker Impulse 1252xi amp running a 10" sub. I plan on loosing the sub, and using this amp to run the 6x9's. I know I will not have as much bass, I'm cool with that. I'm looking for as much as I can get without a sub. I just bought a Kenwood KAC-X40 (70x4 RMS) amp from bamaboy I plan on using to power the door speakers and the 4" in the read deck.
I have not purchased anything else yet, but planned on a Kenwood KDC-X693 for the head unit. I chose this for the 4 line display, steering wheel control compatibility, and USB support (for a thumb drive), plus it had some really great reviews from owners. I went to a car audio store today to listen to different speakes. I wasn't inpressed with any of them, expect for some Alpine SPR-13S (5 1/4" - for the doors). These sounded really good to me. I was also looking at Boston Acoustics S45 to replace the 4" speakers and Kicker KS690 6x9's for the rear deck. These were based maily on price and reviews read on Crutchfield's site.
I'm not looking to spend a ton of money, but I'm not looking for a system that will be the envy of all my friends either. I want something that will sound good. I've been told not to worry about the 4" speakers in the rear deck and just use 6x9's, but I haven't heard a really good set of full range 6x9's yet. Some see to be good for bass, and some have better highs. My reasoning for using the 4"s would be to have the best of both worlds, and have more control over the sound since the 4's would be running highs and the 6x9's would take care of the lows. I've also heard that most of the sound should come from in front of you, so I shouldn't worry about the 4"s in the rear deck, but I'd like to be surrounded by sound instead.
As far as money, I figured $200 on the Kenwood head unit, $125 for the Alpine SPR-13s, $90 for the Kicker 6x9's, and $70 for the Boston Acoustics S45's.
I figured I'd try to take advantage of some of the experience I see on this forum, maybe get some advice on better selections then what I have listed. Thanks in advance!!
