Adding 2nd battery, Isolator Help!!!!!!

free if you do it yourself

a ton if you have a shop do it, especially since you drive a corvette he'll make up some lame excuse and make it seem harder to charge a lot

Isolators are not needed for car audio. They are for applications where the backup battery is going to be used for extended periods of time without charging. It's only purpose is to separate the starting battery from the reserve battery when the vehicle is switched off. They are for RVs, boats, sleepers on campers, etc. Don't waste your money.

ALright I appreciate all the advice, so im assured It wll not make or break my electrical upgrade correct? Also is it necessary to beef up the alternator now that I am running 2 battery?

Yea youll be fine. No need for a second alt, although it would make your electrical even stronger. How much power do you plan on running?

If you plan on running the stereo with the engine off much, an isolator is recommended. If you dont, then its not really necessary.

A second batt wont provide much additional strain on your charging system (slightly more resistance), its the use of amplifiers that would necessitate a larger alt.

I am running a memphis prd 1000.1, and going to be hooking up a db drive platinum 475 4 ch amp, thats about it. I also have 2 visor monitor, a pioneer 7" Indash, and a Eq. I do not plan on adding much more so the alternator should be fine? And no I do not plan on running the stereo while the car is off.

Whether or not your alt will be fine depends on more than just the equipment being used. For example, say someone hooks up 10,000 watts worth of amplifiers, but never cranks the volume knob past 10%, or someone with 2500 watts extremely rarely cranks their system. This demonstrates that the user and his/her listening habits contribute to the equation. Also, I have no idea what size alt you currently have, or how much current draw your car accessories will require (or how often you use the AC etc). But assuming its a decent sized alt, since it is a V8, it has potential to be fine. My best advice is simply try it for a while and see what happens. Keep an eye on your voltage gauge. If you have any issues, let us know, we'll help from that point.

I own a 07 corvette and just got my optima yellow top installed in the back, I am running a reg acid battery under the hood but gel in the back do I need a battery isolator? Any advice to yes or no, or what else would help?
HONESTLY..I havent read any of the other posts after this one..but if I had an 07 corevette..I would NOT be trying to go all crazy on some subs and batteries in the back etc..just upgrade your stock speakers MAYBE put 1 12" in the back and done. Thats too nice of a car to be going all out on car audio. Invest in a turbo or lambo doors or something.
