What are you looking for Sound quailty or Spl ? Higher the Voltage the better but its not a very noticable diff in most systems unless you are a purist of SQ

Hey slip, regardless of SPL or SQ, the more volts you send to your amps the better, the more volts they are getting the less noise disturbance that can be picked up in your RCA's, the stronger signal the less you amps have to work to produce sound, and if your subs / speakers can take it you can get an increas in SPL with much better SQ, espically if you have along distance between your head unit and your amps there can be a drop off in signal voltage, the head unit might be putting out 2volts but by the time the signal gets to the amp it is less than 2volts, so long story short the more volts the better all the way around, look at any serious competition vehicle and they all have a ton of signal going to the amps, regardless of if they are SPL or SQ

ISNT THAT WHY AMPS HAVE GAIN CONTROLS ??

no far from it, if you are sending a low quality low strength signal to the amplifers and then you crank up the amp gains you just making a crappy signal louder adn you amps are working harder to do it, if you send a stronger cleaner signal your going to get a stronger cleaner sound out of the amps, voltage has nothing to do with amplifer power, the miore you have can help you make the most out of the power you are using

i know i noticed a difference in quality when i switched out my h/u last i did it. i was going to go for a pure SPL setup until i got my car metered and am happy with what it did so i am keeping what i have. my old h/u was 4volt rms and the new one is 6volt rms. i noticed a decent amount of difference.
