No, there are two cold cathodes running off of a small inverter. They are for computer mods, I picked them up at compusa for $20. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=298669&pfp=SEARCH

Since they work on 12v (computers) I wired them directly up to the REM lead, they draw like 5mA... I am considering adding a very small resistor in to drop the voltage to 12v instead of 13.8 if they burn out, but they don't get hot or look stressed (nor does the inverter) so I doubt I will.

Well if anybody cares here is my setup. Im shopping for a Taurus SHO is why my system is not too deeply embedded in my car. i want to make it easy to rip out.

The box is 4.2 pubes per woofer and its made from birch wood. The ports were just painted to match the vinyl cover.

how were the ports made, though?

They were made by glueing the birch together at angles to create triangular ports. They were then painted gray to match the vinyl.
