Porting through rear deck in trunk car

every 3 db..you double how loud you are..so by porting through the rear deck..you hope to get almost 3 times louder...

doubt it..

not unless you upgrade electrical..amps ..subs box..you could go up higher..

i.e more cone space...
I wouldn't know how much you are going to gain if you try this OP. But. Every 3 db is NOT like doubling "loudness." Just throwing this out there. You will gain 3 db's when you go from sealed to ported - yet I wouldn't consider that a double at all.

double the power and double the cone area is a general "theory" rule for three db's

I was talking to a guy that has a 99 Grand prix, Dom Irraggi and he said that he put three subs in his deck lid and the ports. My deck lid is huge man, 18 x 42 I think I can fit 3 twelves in there probably even three 15's if I wanted to. It would take some ingenuity but I think it could happen.
No you could not fit 3 15 in there, 3 15's assume they take 15 inches in diameter (they don't, they take more) 15+15+15= 45. Thats not taking in account the spacing needed or the port, and your already above your 42 inch max diameter. Three Twelves would be difficult as well, if you stagger them and give them around .5 inches of spacing you could maybe get two aero ports in there as well. It seems like a lot of space, but getting the subs in there properly and having it work properly are a lot more difficult than it seems.

And to can you hear matt, I used to think 3 db was doubling in output, a lot of places I've been reading at recently say 10 db is an effective doubling of output. Not saying your wrong, just that u should double check

I think your could easily fit two if you switched to like 4 round ports. That square port is f&*&ing huge man
I can get two subs side to side sealed not enough for materials and port area. To get the same port area as the single slot you would need four 4" aeros lOl they take up a hell of a lot more room trust me, I have a lot of used areos laying around in my garage hahhaha.. I have done a lot of box testing in this car. 10 decibels is double the loudness from what I have heard...

actually we were studying something like this in ecology.

it said something like 1 db is like 10 times the intensity each time it increases it you multiple the 10?!?!!?

do not qoute me on this it is something like this lol

Read my statement about the size of my deck lid better, I made a distake it close to 48 inches wide, besides even if it was you could still do it with fiberglass angling subs. if I did a square port below the sub, I would have enough room to have 2 X 45 which equals 90^2 in. and then I could probably have a max of 15 in length which would give me 1350 ^2 in of port. I think that would be enough port to move some air

Have you ever considered turning your deck lid into the face of your box. Your deck lid has got to be huge to. I know mine is very large. almost 48 inches wide X 18 in depth or height whichever you prefer

Are those Treo subs any good? Do they have two that could handle 3500 watts

Your deck lid is limited in depth by the strut towers below which is around 36" apart, already thought of this. The deck material is paper thin, supported by a crossbar (which I cut out). If you wanted to use the deck lid area you would need to completely remove the back glass, cut out the deck area and replace it with a box that will use that area as a face. Honestly you will lose output from reverberating (sp) glass, the back window will cause cansellation and you will lose output. When you get a chance measure between you strut towers in your trunk and let us know the measurement. Polo.

> It is an SSX that is rated at 2500 rms each and I ran a DD Z1a on a 16V system before I sold it.

They sound ok if used above 40hz, then they don't have to be that loud but they take up a lot of space. The box above was just a trial and error box notice the towels and blankets used to seal off the trunk lOl. I have found the loudest to be port to driver side. Polo..

To do this right, you'd probably just want to build a bandpass box. All output is via the ports. In either case, if the box is buit with the external ports in mind, tuning should be fine. But if you just add external ports to an already designed/built box, to run up and through the rear deck, it will destroy tuning.

I say just take that hard plastic piece out of your seat if possible. If it needs to be there, take it out temporary and drill 10,000 holes in it.

What did you pay for your 15 SSX?
