Okay there is something i dont understand. Does damage to a sub occur when the sub bottoms out and when its over extened, or can too many watts damage a sub by themselves. What i mean is I want to put my 3 10" type Rs in a sealed box, can i add more power than what they are rated at with them in a sealed box without damaging them? If so how much?

Yes and yes.

If you overdrive them to the point that you are exceeding the drivers' mechanical and/or thermal limits then yes, that can cause damage as well.

For starters let me say that I do not know from personal experience but the majority of people that have tried Type Rs in a sealed application reported less than impressive results. Your experience may vary but I just thought I would toss that in for an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gifSecondly most people also report giving Rs more than they are rated for without problems but like everything else there are limits. I cannot say with any degree of certainty how much would be too much, though.

I got a questoon pertaining to this subject. If sealed boxes can allow a sub to handle more power this means that more power is needed to make the sub have the same excursion as less power in a ported box...but......when I put my hand over my port on my box my sub seems the move ALOT more why is this?

Well for me, loud is important, but not nearly as much as it is to alot of people here. I dont compete, i listen to music. Right now they are in a sealed box, its not sealed as well as it could be, but its sealed, and two 10s on 600w rms gives me 3" travel on my backdash. I want it to be a bit louder, thats why im adding another sub and more power, but i dont want to lose the punchy sound that im getting close to now.
