plz reccomend sub for me

Hello forum,

I drive a 93 lincoln towncar presidential... recently I upgraded the mids and highs with some JBL P series 5x7 compenents in the front and 6 1/2 JBL p-series in the front.

They sound extremely clean.. The only problem is there is hardly any bass.. I really wanna add some bass to make it balanced. I really dislike loud trunk rattling bass, I just want something nice.

In the middle of my 2 back speakers in the rear deck there is a hole that will about 10 inches in diameter designed for a stock subwoofer.. My model towncar has the hole and no stock subwoofer.

I am going to build a custom box around this hole in my trunk and port the hole in the sub-box right by the hole designed for the stock subs. Gonna pay the local stereo store bout $75 to create the box. Not going to buy the sub there as you can get a much better deal on ebay for Subs.

Im looking for 1 subwoofer either 10 inches or 12 inches to put in this box. Cost is not really much of an issue for me as you get great deals on ebay. My #1 priority is making the bass clean and not loud, I just want to balance out my system and I dont want bass so loud it rattles your trunk. I heard MB quart offerred good subs for what I'm looking for, what do you think?

What kind of sub do you reccomend for me?? Also looking for reccomendations on amps to power said sub would be great.

thanks alot in advance!!

Sounds like your looking for more of a sound quality setup, I'd look into:

Image Dynamics IDv3 or IDQ

Adire Shiva, Koda, Brahma

Eclipse Aluminum series

Resonant Engineering SE series (Haven't used them but heard good things from others)

JL W3v2, W6v2 (overpriced...)

MB Quart

Diamond Audio

There are a bunch of Arc Audio 10s on eBay right now for $100, they are very similar to the IDQ. I think I would go with a sealed box or IB for your needs, the ported box will be much louder, but sealed would sound a little better in my opinion, and would still be loud enough to keep up with your mids / tweets. IB might be a good setup for you as there is a hole in the rear deck already...

Cool, so you think the custom box isnt really even needed??

I was going to pay like $80 to get the box done...

You cant really trust any merchants, they are allways usually trying to sell you extra stuff..

I said the exact same thing to the guys at the store and they said the ported custom box would be the best option.

What exactly is an IB box?

It depends on what your looking for, a ported box will definitely be a lot louder, a sealed box has better low frequency extension, and sounds a little better in my opinion. My sub is ported because I wanted it LOUDER!!! Check out the sticky on ported vs. sealed boxes in the box building forum, or just click this link:

IB is infinite baffle, where the speaker isn't in a box, but the sound from the back of the speaker needs to be isolated from the sound coming off the front. Usually the subs are mounted in the rear deck. It's good for SQ installs, although a sealed box is much easier to work with without a lot of experience...

Sounds like a prime opportunity to go IB //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif IB is definitely sound quality oriented (also make note of the low mechanical power handling ability when IB). The Image Dynamics IDMax10 is a great IB sub.
