2001 Alero.

My sons system/subs/amp was professionally installed with a factory stereo untill he could afford a new one. He finally purchesed a Kenwwood MP 235. We put it in. Spliced in the required GM Wire Harness and antenna adapeter put it all in and it worked GREAT. Except his right front speaker would not work. We pulled out the head unit to see the grey/black wire for that speaker had come apart from the harness. We respliced it in and reinstalled the unit. And now heres where it goes bad......we recoonnected the negative battery cable turned the car on and the only theing that started blairing was the subs and they couldn't be controlled by the tuner. We had to turn the car off. Pulled it all out again to look at the harness and wiring. Everything looks to be intact.......now it seems I cannot even get the head unit to turn on. Can anyone please help us.......did the head unit go bad? Fuse? And if it helps, this harness has a door chime that comes with it and that seems to work fine. Please hel.

Thank You very much:mad:

Ok just to see, I put the Factory radio back in and that works......sounds like bad news for the new head unit? I pulled the fuse and looked at it. Looks OK. the connection between the 2 prongs is not broken. the part that looks like a "U"? I just pulled aprt the harness splices to the factory wiring and re-did the red, yellow, purple, blue/white wires. Rest seem to be speaker wires. Would it pay to re-splice them also? If that factory radio works, my ground and all should be good right? Everything worked well last night except right front speaker, I just don't get it:uhoh:

OK, Progress, but still confused. If I leave the subs disconnected from the radio, everything works well. As soon as I plug the jacks int the stereo, the subs take off like atfull power at the turn of the key? Again, never messed with the subs, only disconnected the RCA plugs from the radio to reconnect the speaker wire? Hmmmm. You huys have been alot of help. Thank you

How was the sub hooked up to the factory HU? Most factory HU's don't have RCA outputs for subs. And how is the sub hooked up now? Using RCA cables from the HU to the sub amp? Or something else?

Yes the HU works without the amp connected to it.

They had the factory HU connected from the amp to an adapter. The adapter was spliced into the factory harness. The reason he wanted a new HU was to be able to control the subs which he could. I called them after that when he purchased a new HU and they said the adapter is not needed now and the "plug ins" from the amp to the new HU, Kenwood MP 235 would go directly into the head unit. Evreything worked GREAT except the RF speaker. And when I looked it was just the grey/black wire that had come apart. Thats all I did is resplice,black/grey to black/grey, plugged the amp into the HU as it was before I removed it, Plugged the harness into the HU as it was when I removed it and the antenna. I just do not understand as soon as we turn on the car its like FULL BLAST Subs/ have to turn it off right away. Radio works fine without the amp plugged in. Is there anything on the amp I can check? MTX 934? I did nothing to the amp prior to rehooking up the speaker wire so I don't know how anything would change there?

maybe removing the wire harness (+ & -) caused the HU to Reset..

So it might just be your settings for the sub in the HU..

try changing the sub settings on the HU...

if not,

try turning the gain on the amp all the way down.. see what happens!

could be possible ur SUB SETTINGS on ur HU are all the way up.. and the gain on the amp is all the way up...

OK, if I turned the "L" and "R" gain off the blasting goes away but No subs. As I slowly turn the gains back, the subs just seem to go to a Hum and hum louder and louder as I turn the gain up. Not the thumping the subs are supposed to do?

what happens when u disconnect the rca's? do u still hear the hum?

for a fact i know u blew ur subs.. but just to be sure...

take an ipod or something and use a y cable to connect it directly to the amp..

if it plays then its not ur subs but ur rca.. but 100% sure its ur subs

try a different sub on ur setup...

OK, but wait, now you have scared me. THEY WORKED JUST FINE BEFORE I JUST CONNECTED ONE RF SPEAKER WIRE?? These are VERY expensive subs. ****, I will bring them back to the pros and let you know what the result is. THANK YOU ALL for all your respsones. I have some saying Amp is done, some saying subs are gone, some saying I need to add another wire., another common, But we'll see what good o' Dad did wrong to cause the problem.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Get out the checkbook:*******:

Just another rookie ?. If the subs are gone, I was told the amp my son has is not big enough to push the subs.......Blown??? HOW DO I LOOK at them to know if thet are gone? **** I woul have had him live without a RF speaker. You people are awesome

I Apologize, I Didnt Read All Of The Post Before Postin My Last Post. I Do Believe That Its Not Ya Subs Anymore, But Ya RCA's, Or Both!

No need to take it to a shop and waste money..

1. Connect An Ipod Directly To The Amp Using A Y-Cable (1/8" Mini To RCA' Cable).

A. If It Plays Find, Then Its Your RCA's.

B. If Problem Continue, Then Try The Next Step.

2. Testing Your Amp And Sub.

A. Using Another Amp, Connect Your Sub.

a.If It Works, Then The Problem Is Your Amp

b. If It Doesnt, Problem Is Your Sub.

A. Using Another Sub, Connect It To Your Amp.

a.If It Works, Then The Problem Is Your Sub

b. If It Doesnt, Problem Is Your Amp.

In My Opinion, If It Was Your Amp, You Wouldnt Be Gettin Anything To Your Speaker..

When I Blew My 12's. I Had The Same Problem U Did.. The Hum.

But I Blew My 12's And Sort Circuited My RCA's.

If The Above Steps Doesnt Find Your Problem Then Take It To A Shop.. But Like I Said, Im Pretty Sure Its Ya RCA's Or A Blown Sub...

Did U Disconnect Your Negitive Wire From Ya Battery Before Do Any Splicing Of The Wiring Harness On The HU?

I Think You Didnt. And The RCA's Heads Touched Eachother Causing A Thump, Possibly Blowing Ya Subs, But Also Sort Circuiting Ya RCA's.

CHECK UR RCA'S. Cuz If Your Subs Are As Good, As You Said, Then Chances Are They Hit Harder Then The Thump Caused By The RCA. So They Might Not Be Blown.
