Can you damage your sub by playing only one coil on a dual voice coil sub??

anyways, no. Its just another coil circuit in the winding with the one not being powered, so its just rendered useless and your not getting the extra output you would attain if you actually had it in a completed circuit.
Other than the powerhandling being halved, and altering the T/S parameters you won't cause any damage just driving a single coil.
