not familiar with the particular models your asking about

but generally i prefer alpine head units , they tend to have more voltage out , and i have seen so many pioneer pico fuses go bad and need rca's grounded that i gave up on pioneer

just my .02 cents

Keep in mind that the Alpine HU's that start with "IDA" have no CD mechanism, they're only for MP3 and iPod use.

You can connect an Alpine CD changer, but that adds (at least) $200 to the price.

Pioneer was good back in th' day ...but that pico fuse crap has about ruined them...pretty much placing them in the same ballpark as Pyle...it was gimmick Pioneer came up with in hopes of screwing the consumer outta money in non warranty repairs at $75 an hour labor on that pretty much backfired

I run the older pioneers and alpines. Most new **** is just garbage from either company. alpine LOVES using 2v preouts for some reason now and a good eq from either of them is asking too much. I would look for an old 9855, they can be had for cheap. For a new deck with features I would suggest a Kenwood. Im not super familiar with them but I bought my first kenwood and it beats any of the others for the price. EVEN HAS TIME ALIGNMENT.

Older Alpines have problems reading cd's and file burned cd's. But they do have 4volt preouts and good eq settings.

I'm running Alpine cda-9856 3rd alpine just due to the features (all 3 have had cd issues)

That settles it...buy a Kenwood ...or at least till kenwood problems start rolling in...I know about the MASK cable breaking...and the dirty rollers but they went away from the MASK...and I think they use a new loading mechanism so the new models might be pretty good
