Pioneer or Alpine?

Both good units but apples to oranges comparison. The Pioneer is totally flexible for tuning while the Alpine is not. Not without addional hardware. If you are looking for something to play MP3s the Alpine may be a better bet, but if you are looking for audio tunability the Pioneer is better. The only known "issue" is the grounding (alt whine) on the 880 but this can be avoided on new units through proper setup.

I'm assuming he is reffering to having the wiring grounded wrong, which makes a whining noise from the alternator. I'm not sure why it does it with this unit but it does. It's just like it sounds, a whine coming from the alternator. Maby someone can explain what causes this with this unit.

The alternator whine is a high pitched "whine" sound that comes out of the speakers. And the tone of the "whine" changes with the RPMs of the engine (the pitch gets higher, the higher the RPMs of the engine are). This is caused by poor grounding in the headunit, and this poor grounding causes a micro fuse to separate which results in the inducted noise.

Like others said the simple fix is to just ground the RCA preouts of the headunit.

im almost positive no one is going to take the time to answer your question because if you type alternator whine into the search you are going to get about 1000 threads explaining it......
