Must have been a bad install. I chose the Type X's over the XXX's after listening to them both. My bud has 2 12" Type X's in his car sealed with 2 MRD-M501's, got plently loud, but was one of the better/cleaner sound subs I have heard. The XXX's were in a custom very nice looking proted box (35-40Hz), they were pretty dry/muddy sounding, but did get very loud. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifyeah i have heard them- i have a friend that works at hifi buys and i've listened to them in a tahoe and a gti. i thought theywere loud as hell but not clean-good for spl
take a look at your setup...of course you are going to favor the X's, you arent going to dis what you have spent hundreds of dollars on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gifMust have been a bad install. Yes, I do act as if it's a bad thing. I don't like Alpine. They've been bought out by the devil (Best Buy and co). The install is quite clean and he's got the kudos for that... but alpine... I no like. Alpine makes good head units, but the navigation on them is horrid for my taste (personal opinion). The Alpine tweeters are harsh and the midbass isn't clean (flutters) or warm enough on the components (also a personal opinion). The subs are good, but you pay for a name and can get cleaner sounding subs for a better price (opinion, but could be argued fact). The amps... no problems with the amps... nice and clean class D... amps have always been a YGWYPF anyway (You Get What You Pay For). You act as if it's a bad thing.
Nothing is wrong with his setup, alpine makes good decks, speakers, amps, and subwoofers.
Idiots. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif
Anyways, cool setup.
Even if I didn't buy them I would still say there are a very clean sub. I'm not saying the XXX's are a bad sub, cuz they were a very good SPL sub, just not what I'm looking for in this install. If I was leaning towards SPL in my car I would have defently gone with the XXX's. In my opion they are both great subs, just each made for a different purpose IMO. Also when I finally get everything installed, I will write a review on the subs... it may be good and then again it may be bad.take a look at your setup...of course you are going to favor the X's, you arent going to dis what you have spent hundreds of dollars on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif
you also reviewed X's in a sealed box and XXX's in a ported
not challenging what your ears heard, just pointing out a few facts.

no way...build the car around the bassto much trunk space taken over by the sub box. Overall badass install.

So you see, Alpine isn't all that (opinion). They are good... but they do not meet up with my expectations for the name brand they once were. And for the record, I've had my fair share of Alpine equipment, I've got what I like now... cept for the sub (rockford fosgate). I couldn't argue the purchase of a 12" DVC P3 @ 4Ohm for only $75 exchanged new... best purchase I've made in car audio imho. The box I've got is set up for a 12W3V2 though.
