can someone explain this to me - whats active all about ?:/

An active xover is a crossover that goes in-line before the amplifier. It allows you to adjust the crossover points (and sometimes even slopes) for each speaker yourself, instead of being stuck with the crossover points/slope preselected in the typical passive crossover that comes with most component sets.
