Persuasive speech suggestions...

But this is about Noah, not douchegurgle. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
This is true... Noah knows that if he really wanted the information all he would have to do is call.

An Econ prof once told us the story of a company who moved production from America down to Central America (IIRC) at hopes of cheap labor. Spent millions building the plant, etc. First day comes, and majority of the employees are seriously late to work....some 15 minutes, some hours, some just didn't show up. The company didn't realize that many of the employees hadn't ever worked a "standard" job before and didn't understand the concept of punctuality or "having" to be there at a certain time each and every day.
This discussion just reminded me of that story.

Carry on.
This does happen a lot. But, if a company goes into an established area I don't believe it is that big of a problem.

Look what Uli Behringer is doing in China. Now I might not be the biggest Behringer equipment fanatic, but that is a man who knows how to capitalize on outsourcing.

@ deaf tones
I hope you realize that nothing you have said has debunked his original topic and has actually only reinforced it...

You are debateing a different topic alltogether.

I think I might do it on...
How physical music media is dying, and the solution is digital media...

How we need to navigate away from the CD and move towards mp3/flac data files...

nG
Interesting, something that is relevant to anyone who purchases music. Just make sure you keep your audience in mind. Make sure you can some how relate it to them as students.

I dunno, might fly over people's heads...
Not sure on how solid it is...

See post above...

^*waits for actual discussion to commense* something you (two) obviously nevar learnt in teh speech class = a good rebuttle to any argument not only supports the overall topic, it points out teh flaws to teh original speech and gives alternative solutions.

solution != sending big business overseas.

solution = fixing teh problems within.

if your concern is cost, address the issues with cost before abandoning ship.

issues with big business, just like joetama's alleged argument, does not solve itself by curling up in a corner, resulting to attempted e-insultery, and coming down with a severe case of sandy ****** syndrome.

sick pay vs PTO argument = debunkage.
the topic is still 100% on track for his argument essentially punishes the American worker, labeling them as overpriced and lazy, when the issue may not lie with the worker, more the organization overlooking the workers. Not to mention the cost of American business considering taxes and penalties versus overseas business.

analytical thought, mawfukcer, do you use it.
Actually your sick pay vs PTO arguement just further proves that overseas is cheaper (even if you think it is ethically wrong that overseas workers don't get sick pay. Still means they are cheaper.)

And he never said the issue was specifically with the worker. He isn't debating why that apparent 'issue' exists just that overseas is cheaper. And as such you are starting a new debate.

The cost of American business is at the core as to why it is cheaper overseas... again your proving his point. Why are you bothering?

You are not trying to debunk his claim that it is cheaper but are rather showing why and trying to rationalize it as if corporations should see it as un-ethical or something (which is not the topic of the debate...).

EDIT:

Just read your last post and I realize that you realize that the above is what you are trying to accomplish which is a waste of time to me (not to mention that to continue your new debate would require delving deeply into much broader topics). bye.

Correction, his argument on THIS subject is that Americans take more sick days than employees overseas. It's already been proven when you eliminate "sick pay", less sick days are taken. It's not an issue with American vs Foreign workers, it's an issue with "sick pay", PTO and no pay for sick days. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'm a firm believer in, "you don't work, you don't eat", by the way.

And he never said the issue was specifically with the worker. He isn't debating why that apparent 'issue' exists just that overseas is cheaper. And us such you are starting a new debate.
Correct. The "new debate" within his debate (i.e. rebuttle) is WHY is it cheaper? If you can answer that, you can start to solve the "problem" within. His argument is that it benefits the world economy by making business cheaper overseas. That, my friend, is where the flaw lies.

The cost of American business is at the core as to why it is cheaper overseas... again your proving his point. Why are you bothing?
Again, exactly how is it cheaper, spell it out. List every aspect that makes it cheaper, weigh out all the costs, then lets discuss monetary value of american business vs. overseas business. THEN let's discuss the issue of how it benefits or hurts the world/us economy.

You are not trying to debunk his claim that it is cheaper but are rather showing why and trying to rationalize it as if corporations should see it as un-ethical or something (which is not the topic of the debate...).
Negative ghostrider. I'm simiply asking how is it cheaper and in what ways can American business combat that. I'm not saying a $1 per hour labor force is more costly than our $35 per hour union force -- but I AM saying that it most certainly does not benefit the world economy nor does it fix the problem within....nor does it prove that foreign goods are of better quality (i.e. his initial argument)

**** it up, buttercup, and bring something better to the table.
Sorry, but your mother is over and has something naughty for me to do.

She did tell me to let you know you should brush your teeth and wash your face before bed. Oh and that she won't be home to read Peter Rabbit to you tonight.

One time when I was doing a big paper on changing public policy in college, I actually ended up arguing that ecstasy should be legalized, just because I happened to be reading PiHKAL at the time and it had a wealth of knowledge about it. My prof was a little shocked by it, not to mention we had to attempt to change public policy for the project too. I ended up mailing both my congressman and the DEA about legalizing ecstasy.

Im probably on a black list now or something.

Do music distribution. It isn't a new topic amongst those who are versed in it, but most don't know about the alternatives or why the current model isn't working.

Re: Outsourcing. It depends on what you're outsourcing, and where to. If it is any form of skilled labour, don't bother. Even the audio industry has some interesting stories and anecdotes about how valuable outsourcing may or may not be.

You are definatly on a DEA watch list... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Anyway, Noah you could do a speech to persuade people to legally download music vs. illegal downloading.

That would be something interesting and different.

INdeed... now I need to develop it into problem-solution and use Monroe's Motivated sequence...

But... ummm... I don't believe in it... lol

I use torrents //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I also buy bands albums I like, go to their concerts, buy their shirts, etc...

And encourage other people to listen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I know you use torrents...

Maybe you should argue that torrents are ok to sample music, but if you really like a band you should support them with other methods.

Buying their album, going to their concerts, buying their swag, etc etc.

FYI a rebuttle is a weak way to try and win an argument (esspeically when it causes the scope to broaden to such redicoulous levels that in itself is shut down), nor was it a debate to begin with. If you can't disprove someones argument without changing the topic then you fail (or there argument is just that good)

BTW I don't see anywhere that he said it was good for the world economy...
