PC problem.

ok well i had 2 very old 256mb ,pc2700? i think, memory sticks in my comp. only one read. so i went out today and bought some kingston 2x 512 pc3200 400mhz ddr thinking it could be the memory itself and the computer would only read one of em.

card says it runs on 2.6v but in bios i ws only able to go for 'default' or 2.7v so i left it on default. in the mobo booklet it says that the memory is compatable with the board.

the mobo is from x-mas of 05' so its not that old, could it be going bad? the one before that i had for 4+years without a problem. any ideas? it is teh gheys. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i didnt mix em. i took the previous two 256mb out to put the two new 512mb in.

in the operators manual for the mobo it says it is compatable.

is there some type of memory multiplier speed setting in the bios?

does it read both 3200 sticks (meaning you've tired both of them, both work just one at a time only)

could be a billion things why it doesnt work, memory is usually pretty good about behaving though.

so you have ddr memory and your motherboard supports dual channel. do you have both sticks in bank one? for instance on my motherboard the 2 connectors that comprise bank one are not physicaly next to one another (conn 1, bank 1; conn 2, bank 2; conn 3, bank 1; conn 4, bank 2)

they both do work. shits just killing me. i almost want to go back and return and just get a single 512 if my comps gonna be doing that stupid shit.

i dont know what else it cuold be.

what is this 'memtest'?will it fix my problem or just identify?
Its a diagnostic tool, it runs tests making ram do stuff ram is supposed to do, and checks to see if it does it right. It will let you know if the ram is working right, or if it isnt, it wont fix anything. But if the ram checks out, it narrows what your problem could be, so it will help.

i know that wasnt very technical but its 9:30 am and i havnt slept.

Gogo

is there any other one i could use without having to burn shit onto disks and all that ?

ok...

i returned the dual channel and brought back a single ch. 1gb stick of pc3200 400mhz, and my comps still saying i only have 512mb. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

ive never had this problem before. im thinking my motherboard is just being a **** and wants me to replace it. anyone have any ideas?
