Opinions on UTI?...

I am interested in going to the Mooresville, NC campus of UTI. It is the nascar tech school, but they do the same programs as the other campuses as well.

Do you think it is worth the money to attend, or do you think it is a waste? I have heard that the manufacturer programs are very difficult to get into, is this true?

Basically what I want to know is if you think its worth it...and why or why not...

thanks ahead of time for any responses...

My friend Kevin goes to their campus right outside of Pheonix, AZ. Personally, I think its one of those gimmick infomercial colleges where you could get more than your moneys worth elsewhere. If I was interested in doing it, I would look into something more local and less expensive.

Davidfre21 actually came from california to go...going back once he's done...

IDK, i have pretty mixed feeling about it..In HS, it was known as UTI, under trained idiots..lol

had a few buddies that went to do the heating/ac and are actually doing pretty well for themselves these days..others who went to the automotive are working for bs places making bs money..

sam (school of automotive machinists) here in houston is a pretty nice school..used to have the fastest n/a lsx camaro in the world..

i just graduated from the glendale heights, illinois campus on january 6th, did the auto/diesel program.

i can tell you theres a load of knowledge to be had from the instructors, really fun environment because so many people share the same interests But, you have to put in the effort to get the most out of it. you will find kids that think they cant do anything else so they'll go there, you'll see stupid guys who leech onto others to skate by and end up with a barely, but passing grade. its those guys who give the school a bad name because they are a bad representation.

its an expensive school, i had $1700/mo going there while i attended but i felt it was worth it. manufacturer programs are generally only an option for those who do well including average classroom grades, lab work composites and Attendance. i was offered plenty of times, but through my course work i decided that dealer work isnt where i wanted to be but the possibility was definitely there.

i'll always pass on a good word about the school, i learned a lot and had a lot of great experience, met tons of good people and it helped alot with industry connections. my best advice is to be honest with yourself... is this a hobby, or actually something you can see yourself doing everyday as a career?

good luck man, i love the automotive industry, i cant see myself being happy with anything else.

and i'm sure you're going to ask about job placement after school, well in my case, i got in motorcycle accident 6 days after graduation and didnt yet get a job. i'm just now going to be starting as a salesman at an NTB because my hands arent yet fully recovered. i know it sounds like a bs job but i'm limited for a while still and i'll tell you one thing, i applied online, they called me back in 3 days (weekend was when i applied) and interviewed the next day. i walked in with my diploma in hand along with a couple of my certificates from school and info about my ase certs and the interview involved all of them asking me if i want the job and boom, done, i had it. its worthwhile man, if anything, you can Always find a job at a less prestigious place as an entry level tech, they'll practically beg you to.

sorry for the long post i just happen to have a Lot to say about the school and could probly talk for hours.

ANd is there a better opportuniy if i go to one of the specialized campuses? like the hot rod campus...or are they all basically the same?
my campus included the power and performance courses (hot rod u) i was under the impression that is was available at every campus. however, nascar is only at one campus and i'm not sure which one(s) have the body work offered but mine didnt.

i'm not really interested in the nascar program...but I would like to learn the body work...which campus did you attend?

What an Ironic thread for me. I have enrolled in the Glendale Heights Illinois auto/diesel program and i am scheduled to start Nov. 20th and i still dont know if i want to go for sure yet. It is so hard to tell if its worth the 28,000$ for the education to get an ASE Lic. that you can get at other schools for about 5,000$.

so i guess this is just a .bump.

i went to the glenale heights, illinois location... no body work there

from what i've heard through the grapevine of students and faculty, Wyotech is a better choice for body work. i dont have any personal experience to back that up, but it seems to be quite a widespread opinion.
