i just graduated from the glendale heights, illinois campus on january 6th, did the auto/diesel program.
i can tell you theres a load of knowledge to be had from the instructors, really fun environment because so many people share the same interests But, you have to put in the effort to get the most out of it. you will find kids that think they cant do anything else so they'll go there, you'll see stupid guys who leech onto others to skate by and end up with a barely, but passing grade. its those guys who give the school a bad name because they are a bad representation.
its an expensive school, i had $1700/mo going there while i attended but i felt it was worth it. manufacturer programs are generally only an option for those who do well including average classroom grades, lab work composites and Attendance. i was offered plenty of times, but through my course work i decided that dealer work isnt where i wanted to be but the possibility was definitely there.
i'll always pass on a good word about the school, i learned a lot and had a lot of great experience, met tons of good people and it helped alot with industry connections. my best advice is to be honest with yourself... is this a hobby, or actually something you can see yourself doing everyday as a career?
good luck man, i love the automotive industry, i cant see myself being happy with anything else.
and i'm sure you're going to ask about job placement after school, well in my case, i got in motorcycle accident 6 days after graduation and didnt yet get a job. i'm just now going to be starting as a salesman at an NTB because my hands arent yet fully recovered. i know it sounds like a bs job but i'm limited for a while still and i'll tell you one thing, i applied online, they called me back in 3 days (weekend was when i applied) and interviewed the next day. i walked in with my diploma in hand along with a couple of my certificates from school and info about my ase certs and the interview involved all of them asking me if i want the job and boom, done, i had it. its worthwhile man, if anything, you can Always find a job at a less prestigious place as an entry level tech, they'll practically beg you to.
sorry for the long post i just happen to have a Lot to say about the school and could probly talk for hours.
