Opinions on this setup?

Yes, I know they're opinions... yes I know I might not agree with them.

I don't want anything crazy, just some nice response and good SQ.

I was thinking:

Two Polk Audio MM1040's(SVC bridged to 2ohm): Polk Audio MM1040 Ultra Marine Mobile Monitor Series 10" marine subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

Powered by:

MB Quart Discus 1500.1: MB Quart DSC-1500.1D (dsc15001d) - Monoblock Car Amplifier, Power Amp - Sonic Electronix

What do you think about

A. The choices I made for that same price area and

B. The match between subs and amp?

Oh, you mean they're going into one of those overpriced, flashy looking, prefabricated 350z enclosures.
If by overpriced, you mean $60 then yes.

The SR comes in a 10" model too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gifPolk Audio SR104-DVC (sr104dvc) - 10" Subwoofers - Sonic Electronix
Each sub though is 700RMS. Wouldn't that be severely underpowered for this amp? Its ratings are only

* 4 ohms: 375 watts x 1 chan.

* 2 ohms: 750 watts x 1 chan.

* 1 ohm: 1500 watts x 1 chan.

Ahhh I gotcha.

Then I may wait a bit. That's a little out of my price range, and I think that much bass is even overkill for my setup and what I'm trying to achieve.

Maybe the 1040s, and a smaller amp. Oh well.

What other subwoofer enclosures would you recommend for my setup then? The only reason I'm going for the strut bar box is because I play ice hockey and i need the trunk open for my gear

Build your own? Make a quality box with baffles or bracing that will last you a hell of a lot longer time than that prefab and most likely sound better if tuned and made to spec

The Polk SR's aren't really the type of sub that gets loud or overbearing, man. Sure, they'll make some noise, but they shouldn't beat the block down.

As far as enclosures for your vehicle, there aren't a lot of alternatives. You could have someone design a custom enclosure around the strut bar or a traditional box that pretty much emcompasses all of your useable trunk space, but that's about it.

Do you know the internal volume of the enclosure you plan to buy? If so, tell me and I'll find you a pair of subs that'll do okay in that amount of space.

I feel ya, even my little hatch gets cramped. With that in mind, you could build your own version of that box for roughly 40$ materials. However if you can get the box pre-made for 60$ and it's well made (no experience with them) the extra 20$ is probably worth the convenience.

Your idea to get the MoMo's over the SR's would help reduce the need to pay closer attention to voltage effects. 1500rms running through stock electrical can be sink or swim.

IMHO i would try looking into the SSA Dcon 10" for $120ea or a DC Level 2 10" for not too much either. 300-400rms ea would make them excel. Both categorized as SQL.

Edit: Not putting down the SR's. Just trying to help OP remain within budget with no further need to upgrade the vehicle's charging system.

Problem is though, that I don't have the time or the resources to build my own anymore. I used to build boxes, but between work and school... time is VERY limited. Plus I don't have the tools from my parents garage that I did years and years ago //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Dude has a 350z. There's a bar in the cargo area that makes for a bad time if you want a system and a bit of functional space. I'm not saying a custom enclosure is out of the question, but it may not be the easiest task for someone just starting out.

That was part of my concern' date=' I don't want to go overboard to where I need to start overhauling stock electrical components. Plus I don't need anything crazy... just a little bit of bass.

I'll have to look into those. Part of the decision for the MoMo's was because I have the Polk in the front and rear speakers too. I think it's a weird OCD thing that I want them all to match. Who knows lol
