hey guys, decided to go with 2 sundown sa-12s instead of just one. that said, the box dl'ed from sundown audio is a very close match to my trunk width. Again, i drive an 07 honda crv. Theres only one thing im concerned with, the subs firing upwards.

I was wondering if there is any benefit of upward firing subs, vs rear firing with port facing rear.

I would like to cut subs in rear of the box, so i can mount amp on top of the box. would there be any noticeable difference in sound?

thoughts?

thanks for the responses guys. i think ill try the rear firing subs/port. I think itll sound great as im retiring a set of RF p1s for these sa-12s. just too much time/money to build 2 boxes and decide which one i like better lol

this is my weekend "grocery getter", i dont have much option but to mount amp to box.

I do however have some rubber grommets i can manipulate to fit the feet on the amp. maybe that would help with vibration?

Im an hvac technician, so i have various rubber grommets we use to install direct drive blower motors in furnaces etc.

Thanks again!

You have tons of room in that vehicle. Mount the amp to the back of a seat or something.

Very true, but im already 17 inches off the rear seats.. thats half the trunk space. ive made custom fit rear floor(3/4" plywood wrapped in carpet) in 2 pieces that lets sub sit and i can pull second piece out to still get spare tire out. idk if i can go any further without trouble.

i love the look! looks very professional!

only thing i find a problem, is i doubt i could get my spare tire out if needed, without a bunch of dissassembly

Screw the amp to the mdf floor and then put a few 1/2in walls around it. Maybe even box it in completely and cut two holes out of the top of the box and wire in two fans. Stealth and looks clean.

Amp,rubber grommets, board, rubber grommets, then to box if that's where you want to mount it, but I'm a fan of boxing amp in it's own enclosure with fans.this way you can tuck it away, hide it or even mount under sub box or false floor

ok, heres what im working with:

As you can see, the spare tire compartment holds valuable stuff. The p1s' you see are only 15" deep, AND the box is tapered to conform with rear seat. I will have to re-do my setep here, and loose 3". as you can imagine, the spare tire will just clear..

Edit: as you can tell by the snow, thats an old pic. i currentlyu have a AB 4480.1, and the remote wire is now wired proper from my new head unit

How big is your amp that your using? Are you running two amps? One for front stage as well? Have you considered mounting your amps under your seats and just running your sub speaker wires to the back?

Giving subs more power really wakes them up. The MRP-500 is pretty low power. You would really notice more authority in your bass.

I’m sure they will be a good budget setup. I think they will lack some midbass but door treatment is super important so definitely be sure to do...
