ok so my buddy has 2 perfectly good car batteries setting in his garage. i can get them for free and i am thinking about putting them in my bed of my truck and hooking them up to my electrical...i know unsealed batteries can leak gas and acid but they are in my bed and they will be strapped down so no worries there...

what is your opinion on this? as my system sets now my voltage drops down to 11.9 at full tilt how much do you think this well help it?

Still not safe. The bed of the truck is too open to do that. If you could seal them shut and be 100% positive that no spark would have a chance to ignite it, i might be able to see it.

Are they the exact same battery, same voltage, same build date, same usage? If not, dont do it. You would then need to isolate each battery from the other to save killing the other batteries. More trouble than its worth.

You more need an alt. Because the alt supplies the power while the vehicle is on. Will the batts help some. MAYBE.

the batteries are all the same and you will not have the problem with the gas because it is not enclosed...the gas is lighter than air and it will disperse very quickly

While you are right it is lighter. The batts will emit H2 gas. That is EXTREMELY flammable and if ignited just even by a loose terminal could explode the battery sending Sulfuric Acid all over... Not a pretty picture.

Also if its not sealed and the vehicle gets in an accident it also wouldnt be safe.

I know Im thinking worst case and 99% of the time you wont have a problem. But hell save yourself a law suit down the line..
