How is this Kicker Package for a first system? Is it a good deal for the money?

Or will I be better off going with a single 12" Type R, 550 RMS, custom box, and 4 gauge wire? for 80 bucks more?

One CVR in a sealed box isn't too impressive. If you are looking for some private bass though go for it, you will not here that outside of the car. Don't get me wrong it still bumps from the outside, just not with your windows up. (It should not matter either way) Go with two CVRs and you will bump, sealed or ported.

That is my opinion from one 05" CVR 10" in a sealed Qlogic box with 300 watts at it.

You'll be happy with a Kicker CVR for your first setup though, they pound hard. Try to go ported, and if they have 15" models go for that if you are looking for a single sub setup.

The Type R isn't worth the extra $$ imho. It does sound a little better, but I'd rather just go up to a 15" CVR.
