Kinda Old School
I have a 02 Dodge right now, big 11 miles to a gallon, and I'm going to have to drive alot after this summer - so a dilemma comes up - I havet o sell this truck and get a car.

Well, I need a car that's good on gas(can be a diesel, I suppose) but wont cost me a friggin fortune

I am right now looking at the VW Jetta 1.8t and the 1.9t Diesel, the only problem is - the turbo is a turd, basically.

How much would I have to dump into the engine of the Diesel to get it up to par in performance? At least to outdo a Mach 1, lol

Edge performance system, chip, cold air intake, exhaust - how much mroe though? I know they're great on gas but I refuse to buy another turd(I use to own a 4.2 v6 f-150)

Any advice as to what I could get that is fairly quick(that I can modify a tad and get it pretty stout) that gets good gas mileage? I was looking at the diesel VW for the reliability(that i know of) of the diesel...help

your not going to get that diesel putting out very much more horespower, and thats just kind of the reality with most diesel passanger cars.

and you must realise that the more power you get out of something the more fuel its likley going to consume. with that said the 1.8t is a good engine if you are set on a vw (which are very good cars) there are many options, how much are you willing to spend, and what requirements must it meet, i.e. space, performance, etc. etc.

Jettas are good cars.

The Vr6 Jettas can be modded to go fast.

The 2.0 turbo jettas can be modded to go fast.

The diesel Jettas... Well, not as much.

I would buy a VR6 5 spd Passat wagon myself. Supercharge it, whatever else floats your boat..

dont know about a jetta, but i got my doors blown off once by an old 80's golf. before you piss your pants laughin at me, this guy was running 11.1's on slicks, and i didnt have my nitrous bottle in the car.

2.0's are worthless, i think you're talking about the 1.8t though

80's golfs were bad *** cars

80's golfs retrofitted with weber carbs really kicked ***, too bad you could only drive a cabriolet if you were a chick or a *** though. And even if you drove one and weren't gay, you would look gay to everyone around you.

^ what he said or any of the MN12 platforms.

My bird is accualy doing great on gas milage now i get 24-26mpg and I have a V8. Just be nice to the pedal. She'll be nice to you.

Plus it rides like a caddy and that the truth because I've driven plenty of CTS's, STS', DTS's, CTS-V, XLR, and the big pimpin Deville. Mine rides just as nice.

I liked my Mark VIII becuse the air ride made it awesome in the corners... Plus the DOHC V8. It drove alot like my Porsche.
