So I'm Test Driving A Passat

heh.
I've test driven it three times now and I'm yet to decide if I want it or not.

1999 Volkswagen Passat 2.8L V6

Its a really nice color but it has the dreaded tan interior.

The timing belt has not been changed (to my knowledge) and...

It has 95300 miles.

The A/C does not work.

BUT! The question right now is, what can i do with it for the next two and a half hours that I can test drive it, to ensure that it is a vehicle I want?

I've had it inspected at Goodyear - they found that it passed everything they checked and has new brake pads, and the tires are going to need replaced soon, but that doesn't matter because i'm looking at getting rims for it anyway.

So what can I do Right Now?

Drive it on the highway, back roads, try to get a variety of different driving conditions. See if you'd like to keep it, for a long time...is it worth it...either way. Stick with a gut decision. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

BTW... sticker price was $9,999

sale price for this week was $7,999

when i brought up the A/C and timing belt he bumped it to $7,499

blue book trade-in value is $6,250

blue book retail value is $10,500

getting the timing belt repaired will be $655+tax

doing a shot of freon with dye is $101+tax

if the A/C compressor is broken (could be the case) it is around $600-700

so then by the time you get it at 7500 by the time stuff is fixed you are paying sticker price.

I woudl try to get them to do the work on it and even pay the extra to them, might get a better deal.

im just thinking that alot more could happen down the road. when i bought my VW which i love dearly, i got royaly screwed, when i went to repair certain things i found that shit had been broken and jimmy rigged, the dealership i bought it from said they would fix the airbag light, apparantly fixing it ment cutting the wire for my seatbelt. and when i had a problem with my security system they were going to FIX it, by disconnecting it without telling me until after the fact

honestly, there are too many great cars out there to buy one that you might have second thoughts about. i'd go find another passat, its likley that it was a trade in and their just trying ot get it off their hands asap

I had the same thing happen with me.

I was going to buy an 02 Durango. It needed new tires, new door locks(?) and it needed new brakes. They wanted 10g. I wanted it for 8g since it needed all of that fixed. They agrreed to have it fixed before i bought it. When they fixed it they wanted the 10, but I had a gut feeling that if all this needed to be fixed it wasnt worth it.

So i dont know man I would just look into where it was taken in, and who did work to it,, and for that reason if nething was fixeD!

i have a passat now and i wouldnt buy one that was that old that has not had the service done on it. If he can give you paperwork that says something was done ,then ok but if not,no way. those numbers are way low for the work needed unless you are doing it all yourself. 7500 seems liks a LOT to me. Im selling my passat right now 1.8turbo 5speed black/grey interior 120k with all 100k service done in perfect condition for 5k so how can he ask for 75 when it will cost you another 1500 to get it up to date. i would not buy it.......BTW im selling it to get another one. maybe if it was 6500 then maybe..if you want a passat i know another guy with a 99 silver with blackwhite leather tiptronic but he wants 8k it has 55kmiles on it now. all service done it has diff front end and upgraded brakes and a phatbox. with 18inch chrome rs4 wheels...here is a pic of it next to my black passat.

talk to that dude [guy022077] up there.

that seems like a WAY better deal. 6500 for a better condition 99, or 7500 for a bunk with twice as many miles.

did i tell you that those cars are a ***** to take apart and put together? lol. the dors = PAIN IN THE ***
