Would I want a baby sitter on meth? How often are baby sitters drug tested? This is about actual employement in a company not finding some crack ***** off the street to watch your kids. And if you suspect someone of using meth and let them watch your children you deserve what ever happens. And if I was completely qualified for a job, best worker there, but every once in a while I smoked marijuana, is it fair I get fired? I mean its MY FREE time. Im not doing it at work. Its not effecting my work ethic. Why should it make me either have to get fired or quit for doing something that does not effect my productiveness.
When you are hired at a job, you are working for an individual. If you don't like that the individual wants you as productive as possible on THEIR time, you need to get a new job.

If it doesn't affect your productiveness, what do you get from smoking?

i agree to a point.
yes its a privately owned establishment, however, does that mean they should be allowed to do what they please? how about not hire anyone with kids? they can keep the parents away from work too. or maybe, not hire someone who has OCD? they wont be able to do the work in a timely manner. what about the one with torrettes? yes im stretching it, but im trying to prove a point. how is forcing me to take my piss, hair samples, saliva samples, and sometimes blood samples, not against our constitution? what am i just suppose to not work because i choose to participate in a little pot?

and what about when you are forced to put 1 hand up on the wall, and piss into a cup with a guy watching over your shoulder making sure you dont try to do anything fishy? thats cool to?

the worst thing about drug testing is the fact that you really only catch the pot smokers. the crack, meth, heroin (if they can even get to the interview stages) is all gone within 1-3 days. yet the pot smoker has dirty piss for anywhere from 1-4 weeks.

and the fact is, this thread is going to go on, and on about "drug" testing, when in actuality both everyone in this thread, and the companies them selves, know that we are really just being tested for pot because it stays in the system for so long.
I personally have found while managing plants that drug testing is more than not, a firm way to "weed" out the bad seeds. LOL, I kill me. It isn't sure fire, but what is. I admittedly was a big Pot head in college, but upon entering the workforce I quickly changed my tune.

I think it sucks..as an employee. But looked at from the employer angle its a necessary evil. You can't have tweakers comin down...or even better, tweakin at work. Same goes for people being unproductive because they are hung over at work.
I think people should be able to do whatever they want in their free time, but companies have to have ways to protect themselves when it starts impacting their productivity and/or the safety of their operation.
i would like to see how many are tweakers, versus how many are just pot smokers who smoke up on the weekends, or after work to chill out...

Some people can't tell when someone is high, and all effects aren't as pronounced as meth. Drug tests let employers know when someone is high. Just get a ****ing life and grow up.
Drug tests do NOT let employers know when someone is high, it allows them to see when/if a substance is in their system. I could have smoked a month ago and still test positive.

How bout you mind your fcking business and not worry about what i do? Like, maybe we should actually ACT like we have a free country? I mean, that is what this country was based on....crazy idea.....

Im also going to bring up one more time how other chemicals can make you test a false positve. So how exactly is it fair?

And as usual the individual gets fcked along with his family. Just for smoking a doobie occasionally. Yet these same people can go to the bar every night after work and get piss faced drunk with no ill done. Fckin moronic.
Like I said, it does more good for a company than harm. If he need the job to support his family that bad, then he should have had the will not to smoke the doobie. The policy was in place, he knew about and went against it. Not hard to understand really.

Depends on what area of the workforce your in. I would bet the majority of failed drug tests in labor jobs (construction, oil field, etc) are tweak note weed.

Another angle of the employer is "if the employee is willing to partake in illegal activity off hours, what will he do on the clock?"

lol.

but on to the serious part. thats cool if you dont want to smoke bro, im not saying you have to or anything of the sort. im just saying that i think the law is bullshit really.

if there was a way to test on the spot at work as in, there being a 8 hr window or so (like a regular work day) and the metabolites only being able to be picked up in that window, then id be all for random drug tests. this would somewhat insure that you are not high off your drug of choice on the job. but when you smoked 2 weeks ago, and get popped on a test, i mean wtf? are those metabolites really affecting your performance?

but what you do at home? thats just far. just my .02c

well how often do businesses or places where you work do these random things
some do them at the time of hire while others do them randomly. Also, if you are operating a vehicle then you will have them random like the NFL where a certain number of employees will be tested based and so on. At my Meijer's job in college i was only subject to drug tests after i was hurt on the job or damaged something like one time i damaged a pallett rack using the fork lift and cause 2 skids to drop and had was required to go to a testing center after my shift to make sure i was not under the influence.

Also, some people do feel that illegal drug usage speaks to character and decision making.
