opening a car audio shop

lol he has all the tools. im just curious cuz he offered me a position. thanks for the brand input. i plan on pushing dd sundown as cascade for the unknowns. for mainstream i was thinkin memphis, eclipse, and kicker. he plans to start off small. i was just wondering what the prodocal was first starting up with distributers.

definitely have kicker on hand. For budget equipment, carry autotek. its still a respected brand and cost on the stuff is really low for subs and amps. Accessories bring in a lot of money, as do remote start/alarms. Be able to capitalize on that market. Figure out the demographic you want to cater to and work HARd!!!!

I hope your friend has 15-30k to drop on the car audio section. He would have to make an average of $1500-3000 investment for stock per brand. Not to mention the cost for setting up the props and everything.

For a struggling industry, we sure seem to be getting alot of these threads lately. Use the search function, this question has been asked several times in the past few months. Should provide plenty of information.

I've noticed there seems to be an increasing "need" for custom design/built product. Less for the off-the-shelf stuff.

I was referring more to the local B&M shops that dont build product, just sell and install it. But yes I agree, the internet is driving up demand for small manufacturers building speakers with higher levels of customization than we've ever seen before.

Local B&M's need to shift from product sales to providing installation labor. They cant compete with the internet for sales, impossible. And you cant put the internet genie back in her bottle. The only solution is to adapt... less product sales, more labor sales.

To get customers to part with more money, you might try building a sampler box for different levels and sizes kinda like what one place did with pioneer. you could have them start with the cheapest then have them tell you to stop when they are satisfied with the power. This of course would only work for budget and mainstream customers. It may also be worth it financially to get a very good accountant who knows what they are doing with money, more information about picking the right one can be found in the book the millionaire next door.

+1 on the rainy day fund.
