most places in italy are americanized/modernized now. rarely will you go somewhere or check into a hotel that uses a common shitter or just has a hole in the ground with two footprints on either side.

There are many places in Sicily, Vinezia and Roma that still have the holes. I had to go through some massive shits/diahrea while at a track meet in Vicenza and when I ran to the restroom/shower facilite, there it was waiting for me. A hole in a cubicle frobably 6feet wide. That was a pain in the *** trying to hold myself up, keep my pants out of the spray and get the stuff in the hole at the same time.

Also, when I lived in Sicily, to avoid the shit stains I would wet the neck of the toilet and lay a double thick layer of TP down.

sicily is still a lot of country though. it isnt what the rest of italy is. it also doesnt get half of the tourism that other parts do. every major city that you go to in italy, i guarantee will be modernized. yes they still have holes in certain parts, but wherever tourists are, it is modernized.
