Old vs. New II

So, I can't find the thread I made a few months back... probably got deleted when one of the mods *no names mentioned* deleted a couple thousand of my posts. I just wanted to continue this conversation...
Lately, I've been listening to a lot of The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Yes.

One thing that took me by surprise is the movie "Across the Universe." It was basically a 2-hour music video where they brought about 30 Beatles tracks to life. It's amazing that 40 years later, their songs are still being remade, and are just so **** good. For anyone who wants a new take on Beatles songs, check out that soundtrack.

One thing that I love about the aforementioned bands was their variety. My dad said that so many artists made their albums "Musical Buffets" to where there would be something that appealed to most. For example, I didn't even know that Eminence Front was even done by The Who... because Rick Wakeman sang that one!

Pink Floyd is my new favorite. Their music is so harmonious. It is just amazing. I can't even describe it. There's just nothing new that can touch it. Yes, Tool and all those others you brought up are good bands and all, but they just can't touch the stuff from the Classic Rock era.
This is my music,my generation and what I grew up with.......

Unfortunately the music business has changed and they pretty much

do not develop new bands like they used too - Its more of the Get em in

get em out and make the quick buck... Bands of this caliber started out with pretty

average first records in their day but after a few years of development and propa musical production and

direction created the greatest rock music of all time that even 30-40 years later are what all others are compared too

Dark Side of The Moon,Whos Next,Sgt Pepper,Exile on Main Street,Electric Ladyland, ( I could go on and on)

These are MONSTER albums that will never be replicated in the 21st century

and it makes me sad because the talent is out there but the conglomorate

babyboomer phucksticks ruined rock and roll as we know it-Hypocrites

On a sad note..... RIP BuddyMiles

I don't think anyone can get the true essence of early Pink Floyd without seeing the Live at Pompeii DVD. They haul all of their equipment over to Italy and play in an ancient ruin amphitheater for a crowd of...nobody. It's all about the music and their joy of playing it and experimenting. A word of warning- do NOT watch the Director's Cut first, it sucks. Watch the original, then tell me if you can ever look at them the same way.

Definitely gonna check that out, I've heard good things about it. But yeah I also heard the Director's Cut version sucks.

I agree. People have been raving about that movie and I thought it was just ok. I don't think it really did a lot of the music justice but the black girl had a very good voice. It's almost like she had the voice of Janice Joplin and the black guy was suppose to be Jimi Hendrix //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Fleetwood Mac - The Chain =
I would have to disagree just a bit, I think it did give a lot of the music justice, not because the music itself was good, but because it displayed just how diverse and amazing the Beatles' lyrics are. To construct an entire movie/storyline (a beautiful one at that) out of Beatles songs is phenomenal, and can only be done with a few select legends in the music buisiness...

Just wanted to say Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorite bands. I wish I could see them live, however I did see a cover band, name not coming to me right now, that did a very good job and even sounded like pink floyd, a little. Aussie band IIRC. Was a free show and was impressed.

Alliance is 35-40 minutes southeast of Akron, 35 west of Youngstown. Only two cities near me I think either you or Ng would know of, location wise. Little shithole of a town, but eh.
I need to get a turntable, and my two Sansui amps fixed. I really want to hear these vinyls, since I'm told they're a whole other sound than CD's. Do you know of any Ohio based shops Joe, or anyone who has experience with them? My dad left me these amps, so I don't want to just hand them to some Joe shmoe electronic guy.

Rus is another band I've recently realized to have amazing reording, on top of their music. Everything can be heard and "seen" to be somehwere on stage. I've been listening to them lately on my way to school. Once you give their songs a few run through's, the lyrics makes much more sense, very heavy on metaphors and symbolism.

And yea, I don't need to get high to enjoy my music. I'm sure it could help, but I certainly don't need it. Pink Floyd got me through my roughest times just fine.

Uumagumma is the one album I cannot find anywhere. I rarely go to Canton*25 minute drive, closest cd store to me*. I can't find it used, and haven't even seen it at Best Buy. I have a spot reserved for it, and a few other oddities in my Floyd collection, in my cd changer.
So you know where Canfield Ohio is?

I lived there most of my life. Not to far from ya.

you guys should listen to shade 45 on Sirius....

DJ Muggs mash up radio, they always blend rock with rap, you might think it would be terrible but they actually do a great job most of the time! Even the old stuff!
