Old version of FI Q tinsel slap?

The tinsel slap Ive been around was very dependent on the enclosure, mounting position, relative distance between the speaker and listener, and even the frequency being played. Unless you are gonna run it inverted, between your front seats, its hard to really guess how much, if any, tinsel slap will be an issue for your install.

I have no experience with the old Q.

I've seen a couple people saying it has bad tinsel slap sound but is that from overpowering the driver or how its built? Beacuse i have a older one n plan on installing it soon and dont wanna run into this problem
It can happen and is usually the result of an improper box and / or too much power. Most likely you will not experience any lead slapping.

Scott has made some great subs over the years without tied down leads - I've had my hands on quite a few products of his design with standard leads and have never had lead slap.

Can you elaborate? Ive heard some pretty significant slap from one of my 05 XXX's while in the recommended sealed box (2 cubes) and receiving approx 500 watts. It surprised me to hear it considering those conditions, but it was definitely noticeable. It sat right behind the driver's seat, but still. *shrug*

Could have been a rare driver with the leads cut too long - that has happened. I've owned several XXXs with no slap at all as well so it is not normal for them to have it.

Generally you won't run into any slap until excursion is VERY high on the RE or FI drivers - which can results from a huge box and/or too much power.

I'd think you could use a piece of felt and stick it to the back of the cone where the tinsel lead is on to prevent that from happening. I know some speaker makers do that to prevent and slapping

They come from Fi with them already.

I've owned both the Fi Q 18" and Fi Bl 18". Both were old style leads and never had a tinsel slap issue. Just don't go too big with your box and be reasonable with the amount of power you give them.
