Old School New School ? whats happened

Hi,

I used to be in to car audio back in the late 80's early 90's.

Im finishing restoring an old car and want to instal a small but sweet audio system. Im looking around at what was the familiar names - but it would seem all/most of the quality companies i remember have changed with respect to the quality i remember.

Alpine, soundstream, rockford,P.gold,genesis.................

Im just wondering if someone could put me in the picture...............

Ive still got one of my old soundstream ref amp's so im mostly looking at speakers.

so in breif - im out of date by 15 years - any chance of a crash course on the manufacturers, im guesing all the old school names have been purchased and are now made in sweat shops...................cheers

Some companies have went down in quality, and some are still making great stuff (i.e. Kicker). A lot of new companies have also started up that produce great products.

I'm right there with you. I worked in a shop from 89-91 and I'm just now installing my first system since probably 96 and I'm in the process of re-educating myself.
