I always see new amps recommended to peeps. Is that because new school is just technologically superior or what. I was considering going with an old school art series PPI but got to wondering why no one talks old school unless "A friend gave it to me" thread comes up? Any of you guys still use old school stuff?

i got a Old school RF Punch 45 amp, an Orion 2125 SX, and a couple of old SAS 8" Bazooka tubes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif havnt used in a while but still got them this is making me want to look at what else i may have in basement.

Not to be rude, but think about it. What sites do you know that sell old school equipment? Ebay is all I know of, maybe others but you will certainly get no warranty. Kinda stupid to recommend a person an 8 year old amp when chances of finding it are slim.

Old school PPI is better than 90% of the equipment made today. The only problem is they're all rated no less than 4 ohms bridged so its tough to run a pair of xxx's or W7's on one.

The best way to go is get two A600.2's and get a pair of dual 2 ohm subs and run one amp per sub. Be careful though cause they actually push more than a thousand watts. The only PPI amp made that did less than 4 ohms was the PC1400 which pushed a rated load of 800 watts at 2 ohms.(still way underrated)

These are all pre buy out amps. I won't deal with anything newer. Maybe the PCX2400 but thats it.

Well I guess I mean that when someone is looking for something cheap no one mentions getting an old school amp. And really I am talking about front stage only because technology has quick and dirty mono power available at super cheap prices and there is no way your gonna hear an SQ difference in subs unless you are talking a really crappy bottom of the barrel amp.

But again my question is more towards has technology left behind the old school. I mean you always hear "oh yeah xyz was great before they were bought out". I am a classic car fan and when people talk about old school amps it feels like the are reminising to the days when audio was good before crappy disposable 4 bangers (please read into this a metaphor). You know like old school is the shyt and new school is RICE. So is it?

I'd say high end equipment now-a-days is maybe slightly better than the high end equipment of 10 years ago, its hard to generalize all oldschool stuff vs all new school stuff. There was crap 10-15 years ago and there is crap today, there was great equipment 10-15 years ago, there is great equipment today. Speakers and subs I would say have improved alot, there is alot of new technology in newer drivers (JL w7, XBL^2 motors, etc) than there was 10 years ago where I believe it was all just traditional underhung design motors.

Yeah the PPI Art series amplifiers are no joke...GREAT amps and still go for a pretty penny today! DLS als makes some GREAT stuff...their older amps and multi-channels would be great for some components etc.

PPI Art amps are still regarded as some of the best ever made. Same goes with old school RF amps, Linear Power (most of their designs haven't changed much in ages), etc etc.

Is new school better? Not necessarily. But the killer old school stuff is hard to find because the people who have them in their possession are smart enough not to let them go //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hmmm.....well, my amps are from the mid '90s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif So yeah....old school //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

75-year-old technology...check.
