Old RE XXX 12 to 2 Fi Q 15's?

My 12 inch RE XXX is out of commission (2 lead tinsels on the inside split in half). I had it in a 2.5 cu ft box tuned to 32 hz, powered by an eD Nine.1 amp (1200 watts rms @ 1 ohm). I have been looking for a single sub to replace it with, but I want a brand new sub, and it seems a new XXX will cost 500 + bucks, and they seem to need 2000 watts now, not 1000+ like the old ones did.

If I sold the box and the out of comisssion XXX, and bought a dual sealed box and got 2 Fi Q 15's and ran them off of the Nine.1, do you think that would be an upgrade from the single ported 12 inch XXX? If I'm gonna have to shell out 500 bucks to get an equivelant replacement to the XXX, I think I'd rather have 2 sealed 15's, rather than 1 ported 12 for that amount of money.

I also personally like tight, punchy bass a lot more than booming, rolling bass, as I listen to a lot of dance music. I just want to make sure it wouldn't be a downgrade in SPL or sound quality compared to my XXX.

well it definately won't be a downgrade in spl, the 15's will get louder. The sq should be on par with the xxx too, but sq is subjective
would dual 15's in a sealed box sound punchy and tight, or more boomy? I originally considered to get 2 12 inch Fi Q's, but I figured if I need to buy a new box anyway, might as well just get the 15's as they are like 15 bucks more per sub. If the 2 12's would have much better sound quality than the 15's though, I still haven't ruled out the 12'.

I've had both, My 2 15" Q's got a bit louder than my XXX, (XXX was a 15) They sounded just as good. The XXX had 1800w, the 15"s had 2500-2700

Recone for less then $100???????????
Fi was like 100 or 150 bucks for a recone, but I am guessing shipping the sub both ways will probably be like 160 bucks or more, and I really don't wanna spend 300 bucks or more on getting an old sub repaired, when I could upgrade with brand new subs for not all that much more it seems?

Do you think 1000-1200 watts rms is enough to power 2 15's? I have an elemental designs Nine.1 but I really don't want to buy a new amp

Also, what type of sound did the 15's have, (boomy, quick and punchy, etc)? As I said before, I'm not opposed to 2 12's either. I just figure if I need a new box anyway and the 15's are like 20 bucks more a sub or whatever, why not go with 15's?

2 15" Q's, sealed box...1200w? Eh. It will push them ok. That amp is a little underrated and should do around 1400w at 14v. 700~ a peice will be alright until you can upgrade.

They sounded great in a sealed box. Nice solid, punch to them. Very loud system I had at that time. lol

hmm, sounds good. If you have an idea, what are generally the differences in having a 2 12 setup vs. 2 15 setup in overall sound? I don't think I've ever heard a 15 inch car sub before, just 10's and 12's

well its obviously not the same subs, but i have two 15 mags sealed on 1500 rms and they are louder and sound better than my friends 05 xxx15 in a ported box off 1400 rms. So my mags in the sealed box sound very punchy and they also play low. I know they're not the same subs but just giving an example

You can get them for cheaper around here. Perform the recone yourself, from the detailed threads about it. Your "old" XXX is a very nice woofer, the motor by its self is a very desirable piece.

It would not be an "upgrade" to the Q's, just alot more cone area. I would MUCH rather have the XXX. IMO
