Old "head unit" new cd changer

Hey, I bought a '92 Lexus SC300(Toyota Soarer) but the stock cd changer in the trunk does not play burned cd's and will rarely play burned cd's recorded at the lowest speed possible, but that's beside the point. I'm wondering if it's possible to just swap out the stock cd changer w/o changing the stock head unit. Would that be a simple installation that wouldn't require too much wiring or what? Would it be less of a hassle to just install a new head unit that has a cd player in it?

Thanks in advance.
