Alright be prepared to read.

As pretty much all of you know I have a 15" L7 powered by a oldschool Hifonics 1500rms amp.

Well I ran into a problem. My amp kicked into protect last week and junk. Well, I took it to Circuit City and found a diamond in the rough. A guy who used to live in Philly and compete in ISCA. Even better he had the same vehicle as me. Ran 2 12" HCCA's in a sealed box hitting a 151. Anyways back on topic.

I pulled my car at the back of the shop and he checked it all over for me. The final output of the sub was 2ohm. I was like wtf, I have a DVC 2ohm sub. Well, found out the amp was kicking into protect due to a short in the speaker wire.

Got new wire and re-wired it to 1ohm. It's been fine for awhile. Hella loud too. Keep in mind the only way to get to my amps is to remove my whole back seat to my car.

Well I re-tune the gains on my amp, its about a 1/4 of the way up, crossover exactly 1/4, phase 0, bass boost 0. Everything is in fine running shape shaking the piss outta my car, the usual.

Well, I put the rear seat back in my car and the amp is kicking into protect again. I didn't do anything to my HU and if I turn my volume to 20/33 its fine. If I turn it to 22/33 it kicks into protect. Obviously the sub gets louder, but does 2 notches make that much of a difference?

So I am asking you peeps to help me fine tune this mofo, I'm sick and tired of having to take out my rear seat cause it don't fold down.

Here are my settings on my WHOLE system:

Hifonics Amp:

Gain 1/4

Bass Boost 0

Phase 0

Crossover 1/4 turn (35hz side)

Alpine Amp:

Front Gain Below 3/4

Rear Gain Below 3/4

Bass Boost Less than 1/2

No filters being used.

Clarion HU:

Sub Vol: +3

Sub LPF 80hz

MX Bass off

Bass 0

Bass LPF 50hz

Treble +5

Bass Q 1

Also, it may be screwing up due to my box. I'm running 1500rms in a 4.5cuft box to a sub that has 1000rms power handling. Also I don't think its 34hz. Sounds more like my box I built which was 38hz. Sounds like my 12". Except when it hits a fast bass note (like rock) instead of rap. Also the port is square as a ma****a.

So what are the suggestions here people?

Thanks.

No, it does the same thing.

I think something happened to my amp, but I think its a good thing accualy. If I set the gains too high goes into protect. When I re-set them, no problems.

I should hook my amp up to a bigger system (something rated at 1500rms) and see what the amp does.

Eveything is ok for now. Plus, with things even set more correctly its much cleaner and louder. Crazy how setting something too high accualy makes the sub not as loud, but I'm guessing something in the distortion range does that.
