I use the headunit crossover, not the amp. I shut the amp crossover off.

IDEALLY, you want to get the full signal out of the headunit (unboosted, uncrossed-over, unf*ckedup) to each amp (or external crossover) and THEN make your adjustments from there.

Set all your headunit shit at 0, OFF, NONE, whatever.

And then tune with the amps.

 
Don't worry about the amp, i had the exact same problem when i was running my old speakers right off the HU.
No one has a problem with the amp.

Of course you're going to experience little to no midbass running a component set off of the head unit anyway ... let alone amping a set and trying to dick around with the pre-set crossover points on the head unit.

Trust me, I went from running my CL-61's off of the head unit to running them off an amp ... difference was night and day. I set my Alpine flat, adjusted the amp. In fact, I like how it sounded so I didn't even bother adjusting the unit for quite some time.
