Oil advice?

x2

I run it in all my snowmobiles and toys, but for my car I usually get Mobil 1 extended life synthetic. Thats whats in it now, lol the best part is its still burning oil after the new motor was put in, so I go through about 2-3 quarts every 700 miles. Then I take it back up to the oil shop and have them top it off for free.

Thats some seriously dumb advice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
Err.... no it's not. I like how you just call it dumb without giving any explanation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif. If the car has seen regular oil for tens of thousands of miles and you switch to synthetic it may start to leak from places that your regular oil did not due to smaller molecules (ie: around just about every gasket). It's not a guarantee, but it happens frequently. It would be best to use a mix rather than going full synthetic.

i run mobil 1 in my service truck due to driving ALOT, i run rotella in my diesel, and i run castrol in my personal cars...just about anything is good besides quakerstate.

quakerstate gums up bad..

Rotella syn 5-40 in my Toyota Tacoma, Rotella 15-40 in my old F350. But most current oils are fine, as long as they are clean and reasonably fresh. I change at 2 to 5k, depending on how hard the truck has worked. Lots of towing and dirt roads and I'll change it at 2k..

I won't run Pennzoil in anything, seen the deposits it leaves behind over time. I had a '68 Jeep that I bought (in '96..) from a Pennzoil loyalist, that motor was a mess. The oilpan was almost full of sludge, except where the rotating parts cleared a path.

3k miles is not a lie, but with today's oils that's a very loose rule at best. Non-synthetic oil, yeah id change it every 3k miles or so. But if Im running semi-synthetic or full, it can go longer safely. How long depends on alot of things. Many of you guys seem to think the biggest abuse on your engine is red lining it. Start and stop traffic can easily be just as hard on it.

I generally dont recommend switching to synthetic oil on an old engine not due to it creating new problems, but because you wont likely see much if any improvement in engine life at that point. But if you do switch to synthetic or semi, be sure to drain ALL the oil from the system first.

I really like napa's oil filters. Cheap and much much better quality than Fram.

Yes, its dumb. Sorry. Your seals wont leak. If your seals are leaking, you've got other issues to start with way before you ever bought some synthetic oil.
