OHM on Jl 5.25 VR Speakers

Im gonna be buying 4 of the 5.25 inch coaxial VR Jl Audio speakers and I have some questions. First of all, what is the impedence going to be when I am using a four channel amp to run them. Secondly, are these nice speakers? I am also going to be running two 10 W 3's and was wondering if there would be a good combo.

they are 4ohm most component/ coaxil speakers are 4ohm.

Depends on if you are powering them with the head unit or with a seperate amp. They are good speakers to run of the head unit, but if you are going to amp them 50+ watts rms to each i would suggest going with the XR's they aren't that much more maybe 20 bucks and they will sound a lot better than the vr's will with an amp. IF you DON'T have an amp the XR's won't sound as good as the VR's. and yes they are 4 ohm per set (1 mid and one tweet)

Well my head unit puts out 35 x 4, would it be enough?

I would go with the VR's they will sound better to you. If you plan on amping the mids and highs in the near future i would go with the XR's.

I would say go with the VR's just for price reasons. But what kind of music do you listen too, how loud do you listen to the music and what subs do you have or are you planning on using?

I listen to a mix of rap, rock, and some occasional accoustic guitar stuff. I like my music pretty loud and I am going to be getting two 10 JL W3's. My car is an 89' Jeep Cherokee if that helps.

Well from that info i would go with the VR's and a new head unit. I am not sure what you are running the W3's with but if you added 2 amps(too run XR's) it might put a strain on the electrical system and also cost you a lot more money. The VR's are great speakers. They have a little less mid bass (which dsn't matter if you set your crossover at 70) than the xr's and the tweet is not quite as crisp as the XR's. I would stay with the VR's and get a nice head unit with the extra money.

No. HU can run comps but I dont recomend it when it says 35x4 its more like 12x4 rms. plus the crossover will eat most of that up, I would suggest getting a amp especailly cause you listed to rap and u wanna get some midbass tones out of them.

i have to agree with geltabs on this one in that the wattage put on h/u's is nothing near what you can ever get out of them. i know that even ones that state a 50x4 like most top end decks do are closer to about 20x4 if that. if you think you can run a pair of comps off of a h/u and it will sound the way it should then you are highly mistaken and would be a waste of your time in doing so. i'd say if your going to get 2 sets of componet's then i would get a good 4 channel amp and run them from that. something along the lines of 200rmsx4@4ohm would be a good starting point.
