Oh boy... another newbie question...

Current system:

Two dual 4 ohm 15" L7's in a 3 cubic foot sealed box wired to 1 ohm.

MTX 81000d amp.

Nissan Pathfinder

I am currently running the sealed box. According to the instructions that came with the subs, this should be the box to run for highests SPL's. My problem is... I really don't think it is as loud as it should be. My buddies two 12" L7's in a ported box hit just about as hard with a cheap *** amp and little 4 guage power and ground. I mean it's loud, don't get me wrong, but I really think my old round soloberic 15's were louder in my 300zx. They are wired down to 1 ohm and I know that MTX amp is only stable down to 2 ohms. It does clip, and lately it seems to clip easier and easier each time (is that even possible?). I plan on getting a Fosgate T20001bd here soon as they are stable down to 1 ohm and would give each sub a full 1000watts (assuming I can supply the current).

The question I have is, would the 12 cubic foot box needed for the ported box be louder than the sealed box for them. I have heard so much hype about the ported boxes with these subs and frankly, I believe it when comparing my buddies 12 L7's to my 15 L7's.

Any thoughts? Take the time and build a ported box wall in the back of the pathy?

A ported enclosure will greatly increase the output...

but yes, generally speaking, ported is the way to go for spl.

Build a ported box and you will be shocked.wowed.amazed. End of story. Tune it to around 34hz imo.
