Odd voltage.. why...?

i checked the voltage while car is off. Yellowtop shows 12.6, while redtop shows 12.5

Sounds like either a fuse is bad or your wire isnt connected properly.

Take your DMM and turn the car on. Test the voltage at the battery (redtop), then test it before the fuse running to the other batt, then test it after. If before the fuse its the 13v+ and after its way less then your fuse if the issue. If that isnt it, check back and I'll think of some other questions to ask/test.

it is odd that voltage is higher when car off than car on

No its not...his amp is pulling off the batt when on and the batt obvously isnt getting a good charge.

I mean, should I be worried?

Yes...You could easily pull to much current from your yellowtop and fry your amp from low voltage.

I am betting on poor connection at the fuse. But that still does explain why the yellowtop is higher off than on, but it could be some DMM issues
never touched the fuses since i first hooked them up...

how can a fuse go bad without being a "blown fuse"?

I just explained it above...with the car off, nothing is pulling voltage from the yellowtop. With the car on, the amp powers on and instantly it will drop a few tenths of a volt from the amp just kicking on.

the amp is seeing 12.5v, just like the yellowtop in the back...... but when i test for voltage drops on the redtop (13.9), the lowest it drops is 12.5v..

no matter what the rsistence will be from the redtop to yellowtop.......why even fuse it between the Yellowtop and redtop....should fuse it between the yellowtop and the amp.......

You fuse to protect the wire. No way in hell I would run 1/0 gauge from front to back of my car/truck and not fuse it. If it gets pinched your whole car could go up in flames cause you are connecting to batts together and no fuses.

EDIT: He should be fusing both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Like I mentioned, I didn't think about the amp being on. I wouldn't have tested it that way. I would have done before amp on/after amp on to check that variable. I think we got our posts too quick because I didn't see your explanation when I posted.

i meant a fuse under hood and a fuse between yellowtop and amp.....I would not feel safe not fusing it either.....
