well i got bored and tired of seeing everybody on this site building nice boxs so i figured id try to build one myself. i know it sucks but its my first box. i was using a truck box but it had alot of leaks and sounded like shit, so i decided to build a 2 cubic ft box for my infinity 12 tuned to 32hz. box turned out way better then i had thought. i didnt feel like buying mdf b/c i dont plan on keeping the box or the sub or the car that its in so i used some 1/2 in particle bored just to work on my cuts and assembly. i know the cuts would have been a lil better using a new sheet of mdf and the screws wouldnt have been so close to the edge on the 1/2 in. wood but what the hell i had the wood left over from a roofing job, and didnt have a truck to go get mdf so i used what i had. the cuts were pretty good and accurate but after i cut out all the pieces i realized the front piece was warped and when i cut it, it ended up being a 1/4 inch off. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif but since i was going to be cutting the hole for the sub i figured i could get it to straighten out when putting the box together and it worked. the box is airtight on all the corners except for the top. the top leaks in the corners b/c i havnt sealed it up yet but it doesnt really bother me right now. it sounds WAY better then the truck box i used which was really small. anyways heres the pics. dont really care if you flame or anything. ive seen worse on this site. lol

also this box was hell getting into the trunk of my car. i had to remove the spare and then to turn the box to the front i had to remove the backseat and bend the seat mount to spin the box around. but it sounds great. ill build a new one with mdf when i get my 3000gt if i can decide on what subs to use.

i could probly hit 190db

J/K im not that much of a noob. it sounds way better then the old box. i was able to turn my gain up more without it sounding like complete shit. theres not as near as many rattles in my car now and it sounds pretty clean. still want louder tho. lol but this setup will get me by untill i can get my new car and figure out if im gonna be able to use type r's or not. the 3000gt is going to have a custom box but i dont think itll be big enough for a 12 inch and ported at that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

EDIT: i dont know why those pics look like the wood was cut slanted. everything was cut even and squared. and photobucket downsized the images. ill upload them on a differant site in a lil bit.

well its not that small. its a mustang but the opening of the trunk was the problem the box was to long and to tall to get it in all the way so i had to remove the spare tire. it was big by about a inch all the way around. kinda pissed me off that it was only that much to big. but its in there now. and i might go buy some mdf soon to try building another one. it wouldnt hurt to start building to get some practice in. my box i plan on for my 3000gt is going to be more complicated but i have somebody thats willing to do it for me. ill probly end up helping tho.

First of all......a leaky sealed truck box SHOULD sound like shiit, secondly.....there is noway that box you just built would sound better than a properly constructed and correct size sealed box.....no way.

Actually, the construction looks remarkably good. The only problem is that particle board (unless treated) isn't optimal for speaker enclosures. The minimum thickness that you should use is .75" as well. Besides that, it looks quite good.

I have go with tirefryr here as well. If it doesn't vibrate everywhere, there is no reason why his enclosure isn't as good as sealed. Apples to plantains here.

Nice looking box.........

What are the dimensions of that box bro?

First i know it SHOULD sound like shit, and it DID sound like shit. second i said i built this box b/c i was bored and wanted to practice on my cuts and assembly. i never said i HAD a proplerly constructed and correct size sealed box. the box i had was not correct size so that box doesnt account according to your post. i didnt say my box WOULD sound better then a properly constructed correct size sealed box, i said it sounds better then the box i was using, and IT DOES. i know mdf should have been used but like i said i was bored and didnt have a truck to go get mdf or have any mdf laying around. this was just a practice box to get me by for now. and i know it would sound way better using mdf b/c particle board is just to thin and wont hold up to the bass that well. i had planned on mounting the amp to the box but its not gonna sound good. the box flexes to much for that and it just slaps the amp. as far as the box size i used moelesters plans for 2 cubes at 32hz.

i kept all the internal deminsions but the outside is small by 1/2 inch each way b/c i used 1/2 inch wood insted of 3/4 inch wood. also the port is just a lil bit bigger b/c the wood was warped when i cut it and it was short just a lil bit but not enough to worry about. ill probly end up using this box for a spray booth for my airbrush when i get back to airbrushing.

thanks for the props tho.

i was curious about some of those TCAB boxes. i seen a few videos and read some stuff over on ROE.com. i seen a few boxs that looked like particle board. the box i have now is pretty decent but i still want somthing more stable b/c this box is flexing way to much and i wanted to mount my amp to it so it wouldnt be sliding around in the trunk. but i dont plan on driving much for the next few weeks so maybe ill get a better box built before then.
