Hi all,

This is my first post here at CA. I recently purchased an 07 Acura TL Type S. The car although beautiful in a lot of ways, is seriously lacking in the audio department. My previous car was an '05 G35X which had the Bose (or as the Infiniti guys constantly called it Blose) Premium system in it. It sounded pretty good to me, but I am no audiophile.

I definitely appreciate good clear bass, but I don't like it when all you hear is bass and the rest of the music is drowned out. I listen to all types of music; literally; everything ranging from classical to hip hop to reggae to alternative to techno to international you name it.

I need the best of both worlds; clarity along with good strong bass. However, I don't need to let my neighbors know I am home from 2 blocks away. The TL has a built in AUX port which is nice and it has Dolby 5.1 built into it.

I would like to keep the stock head unit, add DVD capability to the navigation system (DVDNav2Go I think?), add an alarm and remote starter, possibly a Valentine 1 radar, and really improve overall sound quality in the car.

I do not want to sacrifice too much trunk space, so I supposed I would be looking for some sort of custom enclosure for the sub in the trunk. But I don't know what to look for or ask for; I don't know what the difference between a ported and (sealed?) box is or which I would need for what I want.

I also don't know what a good/reputable/dependable brand for any of the above items are (i.e. Kicker? JL? something else?)

I suppose I would also need things like wiring, dynomat, and whatever else. (maybe additional power supply? i don't know)

I am trying to keep my budget for everything within a $3k range, but I am flexible.

Any advice or input or recommendation in the NYC area for an installer is most welcome.

Thanks!

Congrats on the car, just what I wanted but couldn't afford it:( Had to settle for a 07 v6 accord.

Don't know much about the setup in the TL, but I would read up on "Acura" forums. More than likely there are factory amps that you will have to bypass and such. Since you are going to keep the factory HU, you can start off by looking wich sound processor you are going to use, Alpine pxe-h650, RF 3sixty, etc.

Also if you are going to do it yourself, read and find acura publications how to remove all those panels, boy it will HELP if you learn all this in advance. If you are not going to do it your self, a lot of your $$ is going to go to the install, sound deaden is usually labor intensive.

welcome to ca.com!!

now first of all since you are not experienced with car audio work i suggest that you go through this forum and read as much as you can, there is a ton of great info on here from some very intelligent sources, if you find something that your are still confused about just ask and some one will help you out

also there are many a$$holes on here and you will probably catch some sh*t because you are new, but dont let it get to you its all in fun so just let it roll off your back and dont worry about it
