Noob with a couple questions

Hey, been readin the forums for a few days now, but had a couple questions that I couldn't really find answers to searchin. I'm pickin up a 94 jeep cherokee sport later this week, and I have about 2500 left over to hook it up with a bit of a system. This is gonna be a daily driver so I'm lookin for sq mainly, but want it to pound a bit too ya know. I mainly listen to metal and rock, but like a fair share of rap and randbish shit too. I live in a town of about 20k ppl, so my audio shops are limited. I've been a memphis audio fan for some time now, so naturally that's the first route I checked into, and sound world carries memphis so that worked out kinda well. This is what the salesman told me I should outfit the jeep with.

2 12" 15-c312d4's powered by a mc1.1100 which is rated at 1100 watts rms. Components- mc52 5.25" powered by a mm4.5 which is 50x4 @ 4 ohms(its a marine amp, which baffles me a bit) and I'd run all memphis cables to help the warranty, and a 1 farad 20V cap. Its all memphis products. I'm undecided on a head unit at the moment, so maybe some suggestions? Just wanted to get some opinions on the setup, and maybe some other options as well. Like I said I have around $2500 to spend on the setup. Thanks a ton guys, any help is greatly appreciated, and awesome forum u guys have here too, learnin more and more by the minute

you have a great budget to work with here. right off the top, ill tell u that a cap is garbage and they use more power then actually give. a 2nd battery in the back would be best. since u like memphis, i would stick with the memphis componets, multichannel, and wire(i have memphis 0 gauge.) as far as subs and amp, i would look into something else IMO. i would go for something like FI q's(equivlent to the jl audio w6's...but pound much harder.) as for the amp, i think an audioque 2200 would be pretty darn good to power 2 q's. memphis is good but its just overpriced when it comes to subs/amps....but mainly amps.

There was a memphis pr1.1000 which in my opinion is more solid then the one your talking about for sale on here today. It was going for 200-250 shipped which is a great price. Id highly recommend just peicing it together on here or as you go, youll save a lot of money then trying to go to a shop.

Sweet, thanks for the fast replies guys. So keep the components, and the amp for those? Drop the cap, amp and subs? K, I've thought a lot about gettin the stuff on here, but I'm a little leary about buying used. I see that most of you guys have references and what not in ur sigs, most of the used stuff on here pretty decent?

$2500 will get you a $1250 system from a local shop. Not knocking memphis, but I wouldn't really consider that sq. For components you may wish to look into focal, morel, hat, dynaudio, hertz, avi, dls, zapco, rainbow also there are many others. Amps there are several, zapco, us amps, ppi, linear power, arc audio, mmats, diamond audio and elemental designs. Many many others as well. Subs, eclipse, sundown, rainbow, elemental designs, image dynamics, diamond,,,,, many more. Woofersetc.com the online car audio super store, the largest selection at the lowest prices! is a good starting point.

So I was checkin the classifieds and found a pair of sundown sa12s d4s and a saz1500d amp for 625. I've been readin that sundown makes a mighty fine product. Does that sound like. Fair deal to both parties? Cuz I don't want to rip anyone off either. And I was wonderin if I could get a few opinions on a touch screen hu? I figure if I'm goin the used route, ill be savin a lot of $ to invest in a nice head unit, probably used as well.

Whoa whoa whoa! Slow down there cowboy. Just because you buy 1 item used doesn't mean you HAVE to buy EVERYTHING used. I'm not saying buy everything new either. It seems like you need to do a little research on exactly what you want, then find the deals. Remember, new usually means warranty, but used means good deals.

Also, what norrizzle said about the cap is true. Don't even bother. Do the big 3 upgrade, consider a ho alternator (depending on how much wattage you plan on pushing) and run 0 gauge throughout. You should be good.

When I started to buy my stuff, I went back and forth on products because of different things I read on here and other places. But it all boils down to just finding out approx. what you want in the product you are researching, and finding the best deal.

Touch screen HU: A lot of people are liking the pioneers. They have a couple budget ones, but that's one thing I would probably buy new, and not skimp on. (My opinion, for whatever it's worth)

Shop warranties aren't a guarantee 99% of the time, because 99% of the time they will say it's installer error(if you install it) or if they install it they will blame you for messing with something(even if you didn't)

Not all shops are like that, but most are.

I was wonderin if I could get a few opinions on a touch screen hu?
I'm biased towards Alpine, so I'd recommend the IVA-D106 if you need a single din and the IVA-W505 or INA-W900 if you need a double din.

The Alpine units are tough to beat if ipod integration is important to you. The IVA-W505 is super nice for right at $700. I installed one for a friend and everyone that gets in his vehicle loves it.

Here's where I ordered it from: SBHcorp.com - Alpine IVA-W505 - Double-DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA Receiver/AV Head Unit,IVAW505 They offer an extended warranty plan too...

yeah man, you got a great budget on your hands. i wouldn't cheap out on the head unit...its a MAJOR part of your system and could be your main reason for clipping. trust me...i learned the hard way. buy NEW, the best of the best like alpine, eclipse, pioneer...did i mention ALPINE!!?
