Non-Comp SQ System Ideas

What's up everyone? I'm new here.

Here lately I've been really wanting to do a good SQ system in my car. 1996 Honda Accord 4 door.

I'm not wanting to go too big and compete, just something that'll have really good sound. I've always been a huge fan of the Kicker line, so....here's what I was thinking:

DXZ835MP HU (already have it)

RS6 component set in kick panels

RMB6 mid-bass drivers in the stock door locations

6"x9" adapter plates in rear deck to accomodate a set of RS5 components

KX3 crossover-front and rear out from HU to the input. F/R/S outputs to:

KX150.4 for the front and rear (RS6 and RS5 sets)

KX75.2 for the mid-bass (RMB6)

For the sub(s), I haven't really made up my mind yet. I'm thinking either 1 S12L72 or 1 S15L72, sealed enclosure, hooked to a KX800.2 amp, ran off the HU's sub output.

Really, I'm looking for a great sounding system, that'll last a long time. That's why I was thinking about the smaller wattage amps.

What's ya'lls input? TIA. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hmmm, I've had Kicker since way back in the day, and I've always been real pleased with it.

I've been out of it for a while though. So what's about the best SQ equipment right now, that's not gonna kill my bank account? BTW, thanks for your reply. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you like Kicker, it sounds like a good setup. As said by many people in the past, the adage holds true, SQ is in the install. Speaker location, most predominately. For your subwoofer, Solobarics can be made to have a very accurate response, however, it requires an ungodly large sealed enclosure. I would suggest a different subwoofer, unless you have gobs of room to work with.

Since Kicker is a common brand, I would suggest going to a local store and listening in depth to the speakers you've chosen. Be very sure they are what you're desiring as far as sound is concerned.

Yeah, I've had 2 L7 12"s before. I know what you mean, they seem to "fall off" in the upper bass freqs.

I had also thought about using 1 CompVR 15".

Do you guys think the amplifiers I've chosen will be enough power?

Thanks again.

I would sooner stick with an L7. Although good for the money, a CompVR can be a tad boomy for my tastes, regardless of Qtc.

What are you musical tastes? That could help narrow down a subwoofer that would suit your needs.

The power you have listed is plenty for a daily driving application.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I listen to all types of music. I'm wanting a good sub that'll perform well for all types.

When I had my L7's (debut model), I had them in a sealed box, that was no where near enough volume. So they didn't hit the higher bass notes (60-100hz) very well.

I'm open to other brand suggestions, by the way.

any of the subs u mentioned would be fine/great in the right box for the 12 l7 i wouldnt go smaller than 2 cft for the 15 l7 no smaller than 3.5 cft. as for the rear fill get a test cd (like an iasca disc) and run the stage sections (i know your not competing) but you do this (have rear fill on then turn it off the set from when u had it off . (think u will not not like having it as it dirties up the sound and ruins alot of the depth.

huh? lol, sorry I didn't quite understand that. :p

i hate rear fill. my old car took second in iasca and usac world finals 4th at spring break 2nd in midwest nationals then i traded it. it had no rear fill then the shop added rear fill to a titanic memphis system. they tuned it with crap music (the old regs who competed didnt help with the tuning until 2 days prior to its first comp) . sounded very bad (they thought was awesome) then we did our lil magic with it (all but shut off the rear fill) and it went from pretty bad (wouldnt have passed first stage in sq scoring) to a respectable 3rd place at a mid national event. even if you say your not competing thing is you are still trying to achieve the samething...great sound. more rarely means better .... the more speakers you have fighting against eachother the worse it sounds and a full range rear fill is bad unless you have dolby 5.1 in your car (and i really hate dolby)
