finishing?
i am gonna paint them (well my dad is) but am unsure of color at the moment.

i am thinking piano gloss black with a black grill and white trim on the grill.

but i am open to suggestions for finish.

well now i am thinking about veneering it instead of painting.

the veneer that i need will be in the 50-75$ range for a 4' x 8' sheet so that isnt too bad.

i am looking at light wood like cherry or maple.

need to go to the store that carries the stuff before i can make my final decision.

but with this i am not sure if i still want to round the corners.

square corners would look pretty good but with round there is no worry about chipping the corners or anything like that.

suggestions on wood or finish for wood would be appreciated.

thanks,

black lacquer
that is an option but i did that on my entertainment center and it is chipping off.

although the surface wasnt prepared as well as it should have been.

i am still leaning towards a wood finish because i want it to look as professional as possible (i may sell these to a friend) and my painting skills are sub par at best.

and now it seems like it will be up to 2 weeks before i have the money for veneer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

but i think it will be worth the wait when finished.

i am not sure of what brand it is, i still havent been able to go check the stuff out.

it isnt that it is terribly expensive, it is just that i need to do several things to my car (registration, wheel bearing, and ac hose) so the finish for the speakers gets bumped to the back of the line. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

well now that the speakers are almost a year old i finally got them painted.

i decided to ditch the veneer so i could round over the corners.

now i just need to make some grills for them. hopefully that wont take another year.

If everything goes as planned in the next month or two i will have a CNC router so that will make the grill much easier to fabricate.

click on the picture to make it bigger.

Rounded over and sanded relatively smooth.

Sanding sealer applied.

Sanded smooth once again.

Ready to paint.

OOOhhh so shiny.

while they didnt come out perfect we are pretty happy with how it came out.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif man those are some sexy *** towers, GJ.
thanks.

and i have been doing some calculations on my towers that i am planing to build.

each tower will be about 50ish inches tall and require over 70 pieces to build.

5 rings fit on a 2'x4' sheet (which is the biggest i can fit in my router) so that would take just over 3 and a half 4' x 8' sheets to do ONE tower

and about 75% would go to waste..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

so lets say 7 sheets at $24 a piece makes about $170 just for the mdf.

plus countless hours cutting out all those rings.

maybe i will look into building them differently. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

or maybe i will just build a set of MTM bookshelfs this way instead.
