no pwr to amp

ok, my amp has stopped working, it cannot be my wires or the amp because i have put all my old wires and old amp and tested it, and it doesnt work either. The only thing i can think of is that when i put my power wire on my alt, it usually sparked or something, now i get nothing. i can see in my old amp and nothing is burnt or anything, and the fact the niether of my amps work leads me to believe that it is not the problem. can anyone think of any car problem it could be?
