Hi, I am pretty new to this electrical stuff. I just bought a Jensen dvd player at an auction and was trying to find out if it had power. I connected it to a jump starter and it keeps blowing the power line fuse. I have a 7.5 amp fuse. I feel kinda stupid but it does power up for a second before blowing the fuse so I figure it must still be ok Thanks for your help ahead of time

Try hooking it up to a 12v battery first. Then see what it does, jumpstarter=bad idea.

Yeah hook it up to a car battery and see.. Typically a cd/dvd player is fused between 10 and 20 amps as well

o.k. here is what happened and it doesnt look good. First I changed to a 10 amp fuse and then hooked it up to battery the unit then beeped showed power and then went off, I then smelled the back of H/U and it smelled burnt

Sounds like you need a new one. And if it was ok , it wouldnt have been blowing the 7.5 amp fuse, i wouldnt think.

well u just ****ed it up... why would u mess around with that? just hook it up 2 ur car battery like it was made to be

No need to be attacking, so I f***ed it up, I just wanted an answer, I did hook it up to the car battery as stated in my post, it was only blowing fuses before, so I guess I had a bit of help in the boo boo dept.

If its made for 12v, the battery didnt hurt it, it was either bad or the jumpstarter might have done some damage.

shouldn't the fuse blow? either the inline fuse on the power wire or the fuse directly into the h/u?

If the correct fuse is installed, yes, but if you use to large of a fuse, you might get problems.
