a few questions

I'm slowly building a new system, here's what I have and am looking to use Kicker amps to power the system

I have 4 6X8 sony xplod RMS rating 65 Watts @ 4 ohm

A 6.5" DVC passive bass tube RMS 75 watt @ 4 ohm

Pioneer 7700 head unit

I want one 4 channel amp to power the speakers and one 2 channel amp to power the bass tube...do the 2 amps have to be wired together? If so, do most amps have this capability and what is it called so I can look for it?

Can 4 ohm speakers be wired to a 2 ohm configuration, if so, how?

Should I only go with amps that have equal or lower RMS ratings than the speakers to avoid blowing them or will a 250 watt max wattage speaker carry an amp's RMS rating of 175?

If you have one dual voice coil 4 ohm woofer it can be wired to 2 ohms if you wire it in parallel. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161. If you have 2 4ohm speakers then they would have to be wired to a 4ohm or 1ohm load. The amps dont need to be wired together you can run each seperate. If you wanted them together look for amps that are "strapable". You can get amps that produce more power than the speaker can handle just set your gains right. There is a tutorial on this if you don't know how to do it. How much did you pay for your system:( ? There is probably better stuff out there.

You don't have to have strapable amps to hook them together. Depending on the x-over structure, many amps will let you daisy chain one pair of RCA inputs from amp to amp. This would allow you to say, Have a Front and Rear RCA go to the 4ch. then out of the 4ch. you could run a short RCA to the sub amp.

I am buying everything off of e-bay as Canadian shops **** and pillage your bank account, for example, I can get most everything from e-bay SHIPPED to my door for about half price as I can if I went to a good shop here, it's crazy.

I got the sony speakers cause they were the only 4 way 6X8 I could find, and I can only use 5X7's or 6X8's to fit in the truck.

I got the bass tube cause I have a truck and no room to put real subs in

Basically, I want to upgrade my factory system to sound decent, not rock the neighborhood and have MP3 listening capability...fairly cheap too...you think those sony speakers are sh*t??

Thanks for the quick response too!!

Eh, they might get the job done for you. They aren't the greatest speaker by any means. You also don't NEED 4-ways, that's more a novelty than anything else, 2-way is usually plenty. Just take your time and do the research and you should wind up in good shape //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So based on my description as to what I have so far, any suggestions for amps, keeping in mind I would like to maximize the system as much as possible. Are Kicker amps going to be over kill??
