I've been here/on different audio forums for a while, occasionally browsing the forums and asking misc. questions, but now i've finally got a car i'll be keeping long enough for it to be worth putting money into the audio system :-D (89 Firebird Formula)

I dont want to ask "Whats the best system for 500 dollars" or anything like that, because i can only immagine how annoying thats gotta be for those of you who spend alot of time here...though thats pretty much what i'm trying to figure out...

The car is loud, and will be ALOT louder with the new headers and the Mac exhaust system i'm putting on in a few weeks, so i will need something with a LITTLE power to it at least...

Right now I'm thinking that a Pioneer DEH-P2600 head unit will do the job fairly nicely, and i can probably get for about 130 bucks on eBay or something....

For front speakers i need 4x6's....Since i'm not working with much money, nor do i want to do custom kick panels, will the Boston Acoustics FX7's be fairly good? I'll most likely be running the front speakers off the head unit not an amp, though maybe in the future i'll get a cheap amp with a little more power since i think the FX7's are like 70w RMS...

I'm not sure about the rear 6x9's....taking the budget into concideration, what can you recomend, or should i just skip those or use the stock ones for now?

Now on to the sub and amp.....

I listen to rock/metal/classic rock, and OCCASIONALLY some techno....so i'd like SOME bass, but i dont need anything crazy...I just need this system to get me through till the summer or something, cause then i'll probably just sell it to a friend for a little $$ and get some good stuff....so i dont wanna piece it together as i get $$, even if it would be the more logical thing to do...

Thanks,

-Chris

for the front i'd go with the infinity kappa 4x 6 plates..these

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1448 or these

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1343

the bostons are good but cost more...the reference series infinties will suit a h/u's power better..

as for sub and amp...we/i will need a budget...since u said not alot i'd go with a cheap poneer 12"....can be had cheap and sound ok..but hey whats it matter you;re prob goin to re-sell it back to a incompitent 16 yr old..lol...as for amp, it all depends on the sub chosen....my ears are open for business

lol thanks for the suggestion for the Infinitys....Price looks better, i think that will be better than the B/A's....

Although I've got probably like 2k available, I only want to spend about 500 dollars on the car audio stuff....the rest is for going fast :p (first priority)

And how did you know that i was gonna sell it to an incompitant 16 y/o? hahaha (you hit the nail right on the head, haha)

yea its a waste to spend all your money on car stereo equipment....once people grow up they reilize this even more..its hiting me right now....trying to simpify my system as much as possible so i dont have to worry about fu ckin with it for a long time..simplicity is my thing..

as for the incompetent 16 y/o........i no things;)

For a few bucks more, I'd suggest the DEH-3600. It has a high pass filter, which will allow you to drive your speakers to a much higher level without distorting. Also has a seperate sub out, with level controls.

Check out the Fusion FPS-462's for the front. Very nice sound , big magnets, and almost bullet-proof, and not a lot of $$.

as for sub, since you are gearing more toward SQ than SPL,

maybe a kokda8 or a pair of RE 8's sealed.

personally id go for a single koda8 (maybe a pair cuz i like SPL too)

kodas (about 90 shipped a piece);

http://www.adireaudio.com/TextPages/Koda8PageFrameText.htm

re8's (about 56 shipped a piece)

http://www.reaudio.com

and if ya get a single koda8, get one of these to power it;

http://www.thezeb.com/p-Profile-AP400-2-Channel-Amplifier-109691.htm

if ya get 2 RE 8's maybe one of these;

http://www.thezeb.com/p-Profile-AP600-2-Channel-Amplifier-109690.htm

and for components, id say get some quality 5.25's components with an amp instead of plates off the HU... say you get 2 of the AP400- one for the koda8 and one for the components... then spend ~70 on some good components, and fabricate a small mounting bracket to go from 4x6 to 5.25 (shouldnt be too hard at all) and dont use the rear speakers.

thats what id do..

~$160 for the amps (can be had on ebay for cheaper NIB)

~$90 for the sub

~$50~100 for the comps

~$200 for the HU

thats 550 at the most. a little over budget, but itd be kickass, and some great SQ. im sure some guys around here can recomment $50~100 5.25 comps that take ~80w RMS

=)

i want a set of koda8's so bad. and some of the little UCD (not sure the name) amps adire is selling... tinly little 4"x4" 180w amps. nasty as hell. jsut mount some underneath the rear dash there and have 2 of the koda subs mounted up-side-down in the 6x9 location with some fiberglass work- and then a single sealed 18 in the wheel well location- and my 6.5 components up front. with ~100w per side.

mmm would be impressive.
