Newbie Head Unit wiring question/problem

I just installed a Nakamichi Td-45 in my '87 land cruiser to relive my cassette glory days. Everything is great except when the volume is too loud, the HU cuts out for a second until you turn it back down. Sounds like it's some kind of self protecting thing. I've read maybe my ground isn't good enough, should I wire right to the battery terminal? Or maybe its the unit itself?

Any suggestions/expertise would be greatly appreciated!

just had a customer with a 91 with the same problems. we eneded up running the power directly to the ignition wires and found a new ground location. use a dmm on ohms and check resistance from neg batt post to where you are planning on doing a new ground just to make sure you have a good spot.

althoug is it the power of the hu or just the sound cutting out?

That worked! Thanks so much. Turned out to be the + wire, something was wrong with the connection so I ran directly to the battery, is that ok to do? Seems to work perfect now. But checking the ohms helped me realize the ground was fine and it was something else. Thanks so much!
