Newbie Chick here, in need of a system :)

Hey everyone, my name is Nikki and I drive a 2003 Grand Am with the V6 and 4 doors.

 

I want to get a small system for my car. My friend has a box that is sealed that can hold two 12" speakers that he said he will give me. Or he can build a box for me.

 

My budget is between $400-$500, no higher. I just want something nice to fill in the low end of my sound in my stereo.

 

Right now I have the stereo that came with the car, I think it's a Monsoon. Do I have to get a aftermarket cd player thingy to get subs to work?

 

Just looking for what my best options are. I looked around and you guys seem to have the best people.

Alright, here's what I would recommend on that budget:

This Amplifier, a pair of these subs, and this wiring kit would do nicely.

Oh, and you wouldn't need an aftermarket CD player to use the subwoofers. Just get a line-out converter, such as the David Navone NE-7V, the second product on that page.

Save your money for when your LIM (lower intake manifold gasket) blows. Make sure to check your oil for a milky look at least once a month. Big problem on GM 3100s and 3400s (you have the 3400).

And give us an approximate size of the box. And if it has a port, measure the length and diameter (or ask the dude who built it)

You can get subs to work with your stock deck, but it's better to upgrade it.
