I am getting a brand new sound system for my somewhat new convertible. I need the following things (plus some extras... possibly). Price is sort of an issue, but I'm willing to spend some good cash.

Front/Rear Speakers:

Stereo (MP3 compatable)

Subwoofer:

Amp:

Other neccessities:

You guys are the experts here. Tell me what you'd get if you had $1500 to work with. Buying things cheap off eBay or something was an idea of mine. I will be checking back here daily for the thoughts you all have to share. I'll buy this system-to-be in about a month. Thanks in advance for the input... it is VERY MUCH appreciated.

you're asking for a tall order! first off what kind of music do you listen to? do you want SPL(sound pressure level) or SQ(sound quality)?

Here are some brands to test out

JL

kicker

eclispe

boston acoustic

RF

Focal

CDT

and much more

well first if you are looking for an mp3/cd player i would go with either a JVC digifine 2.1 KD-SH99 about $300-$400 then for font and rear speakers i would go with kenwood speakers i have had really good luck with them and they arent too expensive you can expect to pay about $60 - $100 a pair depending on what sizes you need and what model you choose. for subwoofers i would recemend rockford fosgate subs, you can get 2 HE2's off ebay for about $230 with shipping or a pair of HX2's for about $325 with shipping. then you will need a box you can find really nice boxes at great prices at http://www.speakerhole.com a nice box for the two subs will be about

$60 - $70 with shipping. next a good amp to power either pair of the subs would be a JBL bp-1200.1 the amp is 1ohm stable so you can wire the pair of DVC subs down to 1 ohm mono and amp will put out close to 1400 watts so about 700 a piece. you can find that amp on ebay for about $300 with shipping some extras you might want would maybe be a power cap or two you can find these on ebay for about $80 each. And maybe a dynamat trunk kit, on ebay for about $70. well i hope that gives you some ideas.

What do you think of this kind of setup?

all of that looks pretty good, you might be able to to get the HX2's cheaper if you bid on each one instead of a pair, i just looked and i found a dutch auction for them at $120 a piece so you might be able to save a little money. and i ordered a box from that speakerhole.com place and it supposed ot be here on thursday so i can let you know how good it is. also you can fin really good deals on the power wire kits on ebay like an audiobahn kit for like 30 or 40 bucks, it comes with 4 gauge power and ground wire (which i would recommend with the jbl amp) patch cords for the RCA's and inline fuse and fuse holder. also i think a power cap is a good addition, you can find really nice ones for under $90 on ebay and they really do make a world of difference in a high powered stereo. well i hope i helped a little more. let me know what you think, you can also email if you have any questions epanther99@aol.com

*lol*

Yeah, that was kind of the intention. It looks good on paper, and I'd like to see some input from a couple other people. Anyone see a problem with that kind of setup? Better ideas? Spew forth...

that setup with the jbl amp and the rf subs would be pretty dam good. i have 2 dual 4 ohm punch hx2s and im sellin them and goin with three dual 2 ohms wirin them at 1.3 ohms and still usin the jbl1200.1 to power it id go with that setup and stay away from those other ones the sony amp and the other setups with the legacy and those cheap subs. thats just my opinion but id stay away from that.

I have bought the following the past 2 days...

$65 - Rockford Fosgate CP7400 Capacitor

$40 - AUDIOBAHN 4 Gauge Car Audio Sub Amp Kit

$260 - JBL BP1200.1 CLASS D POWER AMP

$40 - 12" 1.25cf Dual 3/4" MDF Hatch-Style Box (for subs)

Does that sound okay? I still need front and rear speakers, a pair of 12" subs with high SQ that'll work in the box I just bought (above). I also need a HU of the following, so tell me which one you'd choose...

Jensen MP5010K

Rockford Fosgate RFX9300

Pioneer Premier DEH-P740MP

JVC KD-SH99

I'm thinking the Pioneer, but you tell me. If not any of these, which one? What about front/rear speakers? And your thoughts on what high SQ subs I should buy?

THANKS A TON!

if your looking for sq subs checkout alpine type r 12" dvc...this is what i'm going with as soon as i have the $...i have heard one bad thing about them, especially for those looking for sq above spl..

they have them on ebay but don't pay more that $135 for each one cause i saw them for that on another site (i'll try to find it again and let you know)...

anyways
