New SSX 18" box

Sup forum

I need to know how large of a box we should build my box for my ssx 18" dual 2. My current box is 5 cubes at 33-34 hz and i know the sub could use more space.

Was going to do a t-line a month or so ago, but decided not to, because i don't want to lose the loudness it already has in my current box.

so how much airspace should i build the box to? will be tuned to 32 or lower to hit the lowssssssssssssssssssssss.

Are you looking for really loud in a particular range or loud over the whole spectrum? And how much of it's xmax was it reaching at +/- 5-10hz from tuning? at tuning? How much port area do you already have?

If you'd like me design you one pm me for a quote and give me your max dimensions

i have over 3000 rms on tap, so too big of a box is out of the question, dont want to underdampen the sub with too much airspace and have it acting erratic mechanically as if its free air.

im looking for a new box to emphasize the lowwwssss and generally have as linear a response as posible across its band, while getting as loud as can be!!lol.

right now my box has only like 57 sq in port area, and even playing like 5-8 hz below tuning, for instance the the 27hz note in "put on" at full tilt doesnt reach its mechanical limits in the current box (28 mm xmax, not sure how much xmech)

What about at tuning? Does it move quite a bit or hardly at all? Obviously you dont want to unload...but for example you could have a huge amount of output from 30-40hz with a 30-32hz tuning but it would roll off pretty quick below tuning (needing ssf relatively high) and it may lack a whole lot of output (at least compared to that huge boost) at 50hz+

It's all a balancing act...

I've got a single 10" in 3 cubes net @ 31hz, gets loud as hell from about 30-40hz, but bottoms out at full power (only rms, 800 watts) below 26-28hz and isn't too pronounced in comparison above 40-50hz+

At 35hz though, you'd think I have a 15 off of 1.5k

The design of the box plays a huge roll in bandwidth as well as peak output, and contrary to what most people think, you dont have to tune high to get a ton more output out of a sub.

it does move maybe 10mm both ways at tuning, and since the port is 57 inches for an 18, its air movement is pretty violent at the port and have broken friends cd's with it and since the ports pretty small it dampens the hell out of the sub

Smaller port = less damping at tuning (relatively), more damping everywhere else

Bigger port = less damping everywhere else (particularly below), more damping at tuning

Btw that single 10 I mentioned above has more port area than your 18 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
